My 4yo dd coughs every night?

Dd has suffered from bad coughs the last two winters, had the usual viral illnesses and ear infections. Took her to GP once last winter, no antibiotics prescribed, go said viral.
Last winter the cough was present for 4 months.
Then about 6 weeks ago we noticed that dd was coughing every night in her sleep. It has now turned a bit chesty and she seems to wake up with it.
She is not unwell and doesn't seem to get it in the day.
Am now worried it could be asthma? But we tried an inhaler last night( left over from previous winter) and didn't work.
Any other ideas, or tips to what we could do to help relieve this cough?
Thanks

Take her to the GP and have her checked for asthma?

i'd say asthma too.

go see the asthma nurse, she may need a different inhaler. did you try the brown or blue inhaler?

We had this with my 4yo. Persistent cough which went on for months, including at night. He had tests which ruled out asthma / allergies etc. Doctor finally diagnosed swollen adenoids (in the upper nose) from a head X-ray. It's similar to swollen tonsils. Apparently they usually shrink by themselves, and if not, a simple operation can be done at 9/10 years to remove them. We had drops from the doctor to tackle the cough (sorry, can't remember what these were), but it's likely to keep coming and going.

Obviously no idea if this is the case with your DD, but thought it might be helpful to have another theory to test.

We had this when dd was four. Cough cough cough cough cough cough for about an hour every night before she fell asleep. Everyone was exhausted.

She was checked for asthma, but didn't have it.

I used to give her a hot drink when it got really bad, that helped a bit.

Then the doctor prescribed this cough medicine, and it cleared up in a week and has never returned. Not sure ifyou can get it in the uUK though. It was called mucosolvan, in case you can get hold of it.

DS1 had this when he was about 5yo. He was given an inhaler but that didn't help at all.

A few months later, he started complaining of burning in his chest and being sick in his mouth. Turns out he was suffering from reflux which can cause a cough like this.

His reflux stopped when we had his tongue tie revised.

How many puffs of the inhaler did you give? Did you use a spacer to give it?

do you have any Vicks in? If so put some on her feet (sounds crazy but trust me Smile) and put socks on her, works a treat !
