Asthma in an almost 5 year old

Hello,

My DS is allergic to strawberries and eggs but only in so far as he gets a rash. Recently though he has started coughing and it sounds like he might have asthma. We were on holidays abroad a few times and when he got colds we took him to the doc over there. They asked us if he was asthmatic. My question is, firstly, can asthma develop or is it something you are born with and secondly if anyone has any experience of it dev in a 4 year old can you please respond with some advice. He only coughs when he has a cold. Sorry if this all sounds a bit vague but I never thought it could develop in a child, I always thought you were born with it.
Many thanks for reading this.

Bickes.

my son has cold related asthma
he is small for his age and when he gets a cold he can't breathe properly
we now have a brown steroid inhaler for him morning and night, takes two minutes and we turn it into a game

I developed life long asthma age 7 and still suffer
mine is stress related and related to my mum leaving

so it can start at any age, we are hoping my son grows out of it as he gets bigger but its not a big thing

My almost 5yo was diagnosed last year with cough variant asthma (although had prob had it longer, looking back at the symptoms of constant coughing). He has brown and blue inhalers and the occasional trip to A&e for an hour on a nebuliser when he has a bad cold/cough Confused

hey we're in the same boat, dd hangs onto coughs and might have asthma. But yes it just develops and can evern do so in adults.

Many thanks for your replies, very helpful. One question, are the inhalers used all year round or only when the child has a cold/cough?
Thank you,
Bickies.
