Getting 9 week old to take his medicine

My 9 week old son was admitted to hospital on Tuesday with a UTI. He's been on IV antibiotics. He was discharged today but needs to take an oral antibiotic (Trimethoprim) for at least 6 months. The problem is he just won't take it! I can't say I blame him as it tastes dreadful but I'm so worried that the infection will return. We are using a syringe but he spits it out, heaves and seems to choke on it. The end result was that he has vomited up his last bottle.

Does anyone have any tips to get him to take it? Can I put it in his milk or will that stop it working. I'm getting desperate so all advice gratefully received.

Thanks.

Syringe needs to be aimed right at the back of the cheek. I'd give it right before a feed then stick the bottle in quick. Or a dummy. Once they get used to it it gets far easier. DS2 used to get excited by his meds as he knew milk would follow!

Thanks for the advice. Will certainly give that a try.
