DS being sick after Xbox, DS and maybe TV?

I have noticed that DS age 6 is being sick if he plays too long on the Xbox or Nintendo DS! We limit these and it seems to work if we stick to 30 mins at a time.

Today he hasn't played with any but the TV has been on nearly all day because I've been unwell and just wanted an easy day. He hasn't been sitting and watching all day but back and for and watching here and there. TV is normally on for about 1hr max per day for the DC unless their watching a DVD!

Well he's now been sick again, I don't think it's a bug because it started with a headache and bad throat, 15-30 mins and then he's sick a couple of times and now fast asleep! It always seems to be this pattern.

Anyone else is DC like this?

Any advice?

He does wear glasses and is under the consultant for this but improving and doing well. I have raised the headaches with the consultant and he had a good look behind his eyes and said all is well.

I'd turn it off

Have you got a partner who could have taken him out while you were unwell?

Hopefully it's something he'll grow out of

I was going to suggest and eye test but you've already tried that

YoniBottsBumgina · 24/08/2013 19:35

Epilepsy? It doesn't always manifest as fits. I would take him to the GP if his eyes have been tested. In the meantime limiting seems the most sensible plan even though it seems a bit mean :(

YoniBottsBumgina · 24/08/2013 19:37

Oh Blush sorry I think I am thinking of something else, apparently epilepsy is always fits, so this doesn't sound like epilepsy at all.

Either way it sounds like he is having some kind of reaction to the light pattern which I would get checked out.

forevergreek · 24/08/2013 19:38

I would say its to do with the screens and his eyesight

I also wear glasses and can't watch for too long without headaches/ dizziness ( which could lead to sickness I suppose)

cocolepew · 24/08/2013 19:41

I can't look at anyone playing the x Box or Playstation because it gives me motion sickness and I could easily be sick. Plasma TVs have the same efffect on me.

Thank you all for your replies.

captain normally we do limit to about an hour, we have a timer next to the TV as our DD has special needs and finds it easier if her TV time limit is visual. Sadly DH is working away today but I could have turned the TV off but as he was back and for from the playroom I didn't feel it mattered...but it obviously did! Sad I do hope he will outgrow it.

Yoni you scared me and what's the first thing I did...google it! Lol. Everyone says to never google but I think we all probarly do it. I think I should take him back to the GP but they didn't seem to have any answers last time. I would ideally like him to have a brain scan but that's me being OTT maybe?

forever just hope he's the same as yourself and as he gets older he will be able to know when he's been watching for too long etc, but as a Mum it's my responsibility to make sure the timer is on.

coco I'm going to read up on motion sickness. The TV is also a plasma Sad might get rid and go back to the little one that's stored in the attic.

I would maybe mention it at doctors. Then they can confirm that's all it is.

Also with increase in technology, you may need a diagnosis at some point if he can't use a computer screen more that x long as it will help at school. Ie they will let him leave and go for a walk for 10 mins in between etc if needed, or encourage him to write/ read from a book for a while

Iwantacat · 24/08/2013 20:37

Going to take him to the GP on Tuesday and hope I get some answers.

He will be using more computer in school this year as they will have an afternoon session every week! Will need to have a chat with school.

My son started being sick on a regular last October, sometimes after playing on the Wii, his ds or watching tv. We have been going backwards and forwards to the doctors for months. He could be feeling fine and within 5 minutes start with a headache and be sick, sometimes he will not have a headache. My son is usually worse on an evening just as he's going to bed, he will be sick but then will happily go to bed and will fall asleep quickly.

We were refered to the hospital and had various tests, including a brain scan and tests for epilepsy, he was finally diagnosed with migraines and has just started medication for this.

We try to limit the usage of computers & tv but also running around can bring a headache & sickness on. We have been advised that he has regular snacks and goes to bed at a regulartime, as overtierdness can bring sickness on.

Hope you have a successful appointment with the Drs.

I was also going to suggest migraine having a sufferer who projectile vomits. The biggest issue for us was getting school to take triggers seriously sadly it took DD projectile vomiting all over a teacher from a sudden trigger for them to understand what I was trying to say.

Lonecatwithkitten · 25/08/2013 11:08

Ohbearhug my DD has three triggers getting too hot, dehydration and sudden shocks. Could overheating or dehydration be a trigger for your DC?
DD even though she is only 9 knows she needs to trigger at least 2 litres of water a day more if she is very active, though we do also use preventative medication too.

mybearhug · 28/08/2013 18:05

Thanks Lonecatwithkitten, funny you should say that, yes, when he gets hot he is often sick as well. I hate it when he says he's hot as he's usually sick. When is was hot before they broke up from school, he stayed in on a lunchtime, as to prevent him from being sick. Fortunately his school are really helpful and will do there best for him & are very understanding and realise he can be fine 1 minute and being sick 5 minutes later.

We have found if he eats certain things, he can be sick including fizzy drinks, fizzy sweets, strawberries & oranges .

How did you get on at the Drs ??
