my Dd 9.5 months is on her 3rd day of diarrhoea, also 2 nights of having to get up and change her nappy up to 6 times. We went to the docs who says we have to starve her, offering rehydration fluids, and very diluted milk and a tiny bit of rice cake if she really can't cope. I have got this far, but someone tell me how I am going to get through the day? She will be starving later and will cry and cry. Has anyone had to do this? How did you cope? I am not even sure she is going to settle for her nap now on an almost empty stomach. TIA

Well I'm not a medical professional but I wouldn't starve her. I'd give her lots of water, no dairy and plain foods like the BRAT diet, banana, rice, apple and plain toast.

My Ds was 7 this year and he had diarrhoea for 4 months. I, like you was told for 3 weeks that the problem was I was feeding him and should starve him, even though he was hungry. I followed the BRAT diet with him up until then.

However when we were admitted to hospital the doctors there were horrified that I had been told to starve him and told me you can never starve a child, so please give her some of the food above in small amounts at regular intervals and it will hopefully pass by itself, although if it doesn't go back to the doctors and keep pushing your case, especially if she gets dehydrated - sunken eyes, and strong urine.

Hope she gets better soon. (think the apples are better stewed).
