Block braces for overbite

He has a 10mm overbite and has just had block braces fitted.
He looks so different with them in and he doesn't like it, the ortho reassured me that they are beneficial, but I just want to know other people's experiences with them. Are the results worth it? I want to give him encouraging stories so he keeps them in.
His jaw has been brought forward by 8mm and it was a bit scary at first, I wandered if I had done the right thing by him.

Hi this is te first time I have ever posted a reply so bear with me ! My son had a block brace fitted about 2 years ago for the same problem. He was tole he would have it for a year but actually only needed it for about for slightly less than that. Although it was awkward at first he soon got used to it and the results are amazing - he now has train tracks to close up the gaps which is coming off nest month. The whole treatment has taken 18 months and I am excited about seeing the finished results!

Bear with it all I can say is get him to wear it as much as possible and buy some denture cleaner for it !

yy its well worth it. As to the change in appearance, its a bit like you having a new hair style you look in the mirror and don't recognise yourself.
They will take about 5-7 days to get use to them.

DD1 had them, they really work. Encourage him to stick with them and you will be amazed by the difference. Definitely worth it!

My DD was given them and just couldn't abide them so I can sympathise! She was very self conscious about how she looked and spoke when she had them in and a few times she woke up through the night in tears with the pain. However, she now really wishes she'd stuck it out as the alternative is surgery, which will be more drawn out and painful than the twin block would have been and will leave her in hospital for five days. Can say with hindsight that they are definitely worth persevering with!

My dd didn't cope at all and accidently "lost " them so I've been re-referred to a different orthodontic clinic for a new set and I'm dreading having to go through it all again......

She has a 12mm overbite and it effects the way she eats
