My LO is 21 months and for the last five days had a temperature of 37.2C . First i though it must be a little cold although she doesn't have any symptom and gave it a few days, but there is no improvement and i do wander what it could be. She is off food, drinking enormous quantities of water and not happy. We are off to the GP tomorrow, just looking for a reason, anyone have been in similar situation? Thanks

37.2c is a perfectly normal temperature. The reason you can't find a cause of the temperature is that she doesn't have a fever.

The other symptoms may indicate a virus. She could be teething, which would cause her to be off food slightly, too.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 18/08/2013 15:12

I wouldn't do anything for a temperature of 37.2, it's entirely normal. As long as she's drinking that's fine. Kids sometimes go off their food if they're teething, if you think she's in pain then give calpol but I wouldn't go to the GP looking for the cause of a temperature as she hasn't got one.

OddBoots · 18/08/2013 15:14

Do you often take her temperature? Is it normally much lower different to that?

babySophieRose · 18/08/2013 15:28

Thank you all. She is teething on and off lately, but i can tell when she is in pain from teething and is not that now. I wasn't worried until today, but it is day five and it occurred to me that it could be some kind of urinary tract infection or something else. I know that prolonged low grade fever is not normal and if tomorrow she is no better we will visit the GP.

NHS info on fever

By all means get her checked by the GP is she seems persistently off her food and a bit unwell to you.

But 37.2 is not a fever.

MissMarplesBloomers · 18/08/2013 15:33

Around 36.5-37 deg is normal not a fever OP.

Is she hot to touch, what is HER usual temp when well?

I would be more concenred about the not happy & off her food but the important thing is she is drinking so that's good.

Are her poos normal frequency and colour?

What makes you think it's a urine infection, is she going more often or showing discomfort when passing?

Probably a virus and she'll wake up tomorrow and eat for England!

babySophieRose · 18/08/2013 15:33

Oddboots, i do not take her temperature often, not unless she is unwell, but as i have been checking it for a day or two after illness, i know her temperature is normally 36.6C.

A low grade fever is above 37.5.I wouldn't count 37.2 as a temperature.

Does she have any symptoms? If even if kids have got a temperature they recommend now you leave it to do its job and not mask it with calpol unless it's really high 39-40 or they are miserable.

What makes you think it's a UTI? Does her wee smell? Is it strong in colour? Is she in pain?

babySophieRose · 18/08/2013 15:38

Well, she drinks like there will be no more. For the last few days she drinks between 3-6 liters for 24h, that is also worrying.

That's a lot of water. That would be my concern, not her temperature. Is she losing weight?

babySophieRose · 18/08/2013 15:44

Do not think she is loosing weight yet, but if she carries on for a few more days she will.

lougle · 18/08/2013 16:44

I'd be more worried about possible diabetes if she's drinking up to 6 litres of water. That's 30 glasses of water. Is that right? You think she's had 30 glasses of water in 24 hours?

babySophieRose · 18/08/2013 19:58

She always drinks a lot of water when ill, it is for the past few days only. Otherwise she is healthy and happy kid. Always have been on the 75 centil.
