6 year old constantly soiling

DS1 has been regularly soiling his underpants for a few months now but it has reached crisis proportions while on holidays. DH says it's completely normal and due to laziness and I am overreacting to think there may be an underlying medical issue here. I am very concerned - my lovely little boy is being teased by other kids for being 'smelly' and he doesn't seem to know he's doing it, or when he has done it. Am I overreacting to consider speaking him to the GP or is it just that DH isn't having to do the washing...

Go to GP - he is probably constipated. My 4 year old is the same and has been given movicol by the doc.

Sounds like it could be encopresis.

I just came online to post the very same thing about my dd who is 7. It was happening irregularly but in last couple of weeks has been every day. I'm at my wits end.

Not sure with regard to your ds but dd eats a healthy diet plenty of fruit and veg and fibre. It doesn't seem to relate to anything shes eaten. Ive kept a food diary.

When I clean her you can tell shes been holding on and its compacted between her buttocks if that makes sense?

I've been in the same situation with my DD since she was 3. She's now nearly 7. It is a nightmare. Thank goodness but she's on a pretty even kneel now, but does need regular movicol or she gets backed up and starts soiling again.

This book was a big help:
Constipation withholding and your child; a family guide to soiling and wetting by Anthony Cohn. It explains what's going on and has useful strategies to manage it.

Diet has never been an issue with my DD: this is not your fault!
Best of luck, I've been there Wink
