Periods starting then stopping in a 12 year old

DD1 was 12 in May. She is slightly smaller than average but not tiny.

She has had some breast development for about 18 months. And a hint of underarm and pubic hair.

Just before Christmas she had what I assumed as a light period. Her first. Lasted a couple of days. A panty liner was sufficient.

Since then there has been nothing more. So over 6 months. But each time she would be 'due' (I know as the first one was same as mine) she gets a tummy ache. Not bad. But its definitely thee. She us a sensible intelligent girl but a bit of a worrier so I don't want to take her to GP needlessly.

I started mine at 13. Still regular at 46.

Anyone else have experience of this?

Yes mine were like that when I first started. It took years to become regular. But if you're worried theres no harm in talking to the gp.

It's totally normal for periods to be very irregular to start with.

Thankyou for your replies. I was not that surprised that they were not regular yet. But was a bit thrown by the 'phantom' tummy ache which, when described, sounds just like period pain.

I definitely believe her about them.

This is happening to my 11yo DD. Some months she just gets a staining that doesn't develope into a proper period as well.

Thankyou. It is reassuring to know that it's probably a variation of 'normal'.

A work colleague of mine mentioned her daughter had had one proper period and two lots of spotting in two years (she's now 13). They have spoken to the doctor about it, who isn't at all concerned. Hope things settle down for her soon.

Thankyou. All very reassuring.
