I have an 8 month old son who can't sit up without support yet. He also won't put any weight on his feet, he just lifts his legs up or starts kicking. Health visitor thinks He may need physio but doctor says hes fine :S confused and don't know what to do.

Hv can make referral to community physio for assessment. Ask hv to refer.

And go back to gp and ask for referral to paediatrician for a check

Saw the health visitor, she's going to do a full developmental check on him in a few weeks and if he's still not weight baring, sitting up etc them she's going to refer him

Hello! I am sorry to hear that you are worried about your dc sitting up and weight bearing. You know your child best so whatever your instincts are are most likely your best guide. One of my wise sisters once said 'what have you got to lose by having it checked?'. I am no medic but wanted to just reassure you that my DD (DC3) did not put any weight on her feet whatsoever until she was just short of being two. I think the soles of he feet literally did not touch a surface! At the time I jokingly put it down to her huge head and not being able to take the weight of it (all my three have heads that are mahoosive!). By two she started to walk and then from there it all came very quickly. If I look at my friends it is usually the ones with small light children who walk quickly and sit up and weight bear IMHO. I can't compare because I don't know your child but i wanted to reassure you that there is a mum here who has had three children who have been slow to sit and the third to weight bear and they all seem fine now. So in summary - not saying don't go through with referrals but be reassured you are not alone. Keep going! [:)]

Hi Smile I also have 3 children. My first son was walking by 13 months and my second skipped the crawling stage altogether and didnt walk until 18 months. I wasn't worried about my youngest son not weight baring etc until the health visitor said she thinks he may need physio Confused I was quite happy to just let him go at his own pace. But you're right, there's no harm in getting it checked. I think these health visitors like to keep you on your toes sometimes haha. She said to give him lots of tummy time etc but if I give him anymore tummy time than I already do he'll practically live on the floor.
