Baby poo smelling of vomit

Hope someone can help. My 10 mo dd has, for the last 2 days, poo that smells very strongly of vomit. She also been pooing more than normal. It's not runny, but is sort of sticky, curdled, thick & pale (sorry). She vomited a very small amount of milk this morning but apart from that no other symptoms (apart from nappy rash).

We've just started putting her in her cot in her own room for naps & nighttime & I was worried that it might be stress related?

Does anyone have any ideas?

TIA

Both my girls smelled like this when teething. Soon sfter they developed nappy rash and a tooth would appear. Now i smell it and think hmmm teeth are coming!

not sure you will like your baby compared to a dog but my lab has just had a bout like this with a bad tummy. it smelled like vomit and on inspection seemed to have muccus (sp sorry) in it which is where the smell would be coming from.

for my dog it was a day of dry toast followed by a day of rice and gradual reintroduction of usual food with the dry days having soaked up the acid etc.

clearly not an option for a 10month old but some dry plain foods may be a good idea - the nappy rash might be because the poo is particularly acid. also lots of water.

have you introduced any new foods lately? what is she eating?

Well I've often thought that babies & dogs were similar Grin.

Yeah I wondered about teething - she has no teeth at all yet so that might be it.

She had chicken liver on sat & sun, but that's the only new food we've introduced. She eats pretty much anything & everything so it's difficult to pinpoint a culprit food. She was allergic to eggs when she first started weaning & then seemed to be ok with them, but she had omelette on mon & the poo thing started Monday night so now I'm not too sure.

Ill keep her on plain foods today, no fruit or anything & see how it goes. Would you say I should keep her away from other babies until it passes (excuse the pun!), I was thinking I should

i don't know - would you actually call it d&v or just a slightly odd tummy?

plain food sounds a good start to me. do that for a couple of days and see if it makes a difference - two days of liver and egg that she has had response to in the past may also be it - who knows. first port of call with tummy/sickness, unless it's really bad, is dry bland food, lots of water and give it 48hrs for me - bit it my child, my dogs or me. if that doesn't help think about a doc.

teething could well be it too but a bland diet would still kind of help due to all the acid it seems to make them produce in their tummies whilst going through it.

that should say, 'be it my child, my dogs or me' not bit it Confused

Thanks Swallowed. It's not d&v no, just dodgy poo by the looks of things. She's bf as well so I'll offer her more boob if she wants it. It's so confusing isn't it?!

Now I keep smelling poo & scared I may have some of it on me - its like that film Life as We Know it where that woman says "Honey, you have shit on your face"

well at least a babies nappy is easier to clean up than a kitchen floor like i got woken up to the other day Grin

i'd say it's not d and v so prob no reason not to see other kids but others may have a different take on that. if she was at nursery they wouldn't see her as needing to stay home if that helps your decision.

Thanks Swallowed. She's in reusable nappies (disposables just leaked the poo) & I forgot to put a liner in her one this morning & she pooed so had to clear it up with toilet paper (boak) as best I could then chuck it in the washing machine. Manktastic. Hope your dog gets better soon

dogs are doing fine now after some serious intervention but this morning is their first morning back on their usual food and first time i haven't soaked it so it all rests on today as to whether i've nailed it.

poo sucks. i find i can cope with just about everything single handed and not too complaining till the world gets covered in poo - it is the straw that breaks this camel Grin

hope her tummy settles quickly and it is as simple as something she ate or a tooth on it's way.
