7yo daughter injured her hip. Should I seek medical advice?

She fell of a grassy ledge 2 days ago, I guess about just over a meter down? I say just over, as it was a little further than DD's own height of around 120cm (approx). She had been swinging on a tall skinny branch of a weeping type tree which then pinged back and she stepped back, then disappeared! She was not too close to the ledge but as she stepped back she stepped into a hidden grassy bit that was not actually ledge, just grass and fell.

I ran over as she peered up, and she said her back and stomach hurt. She couldn't remember if she landed on her front or her back; it clearly frightened her so we had a big cuddle and I checked her over. He back pain subsided, as did her stomach, no marks or bruises, and it seemed she was somewhat winded. She was then fine, running around, saying her hip hurt but she was getting on with it. As we walked to the car later, about 30 mins walk, she did this fine. From time to time she said her back hurt, and occasionally said she had a funny feeling down her leg (but, I have a back problem and I know she likes to 'empathise' so I tried not to put my own spin on that) and then that pain seemed to localise into her hip.

Yesterday she had a little bit of back and neck pain, nothing significant, but complained of a painful hip and by the evening she was uncomfortable with it.

This morning she said she could feel it hurting 'but only a little bit'. We have been out and running about and from time to time she has winced but it has not stopped her moving, but as the afternoon has worn on she has complained of sharp pain in her hip when she moves it. I got her to move it around and identify where the pain is and it is at the top of her hip (and also still into her back a little) and it doesn't really hurt when she lifts her knee up toward her chest, but does a lot when she places it back down. So when she walks the downward movement hurts as does rotating it. It also hurts if she lies down and bends her legs in the opposite direction. Some pain in her leg too.

She is mobile, moving around fine and not complaining constantly about pain, but then she will suddenly go 'ow ow ow' and hop to a seat. She is not a complainer so i know that if she says it hurts, then it hurts.

Is this just bruising? It was not so much how far she fell, but more the suddenness of it and the lack of ability to brace herself for it and so she most likely landed on her side which is why she can't recall exactly how she landed/front or back.

Should I get some medical advice? She is happy enough in herself, and not in constant agony, so I am thinking it can wait until tomorrow morning?

Well, I am not a medic just a mum, so please if anyone qualified comes along listen to them not to me! I would say that if she'd done anything serious she'd be in a lot more pain and a lot less mobile than she is. So I'd suspect something is a bit bashed and bruised. But I would still go and see someone tomorrow especially if it doesn't seem to be improving at all.

purple I guess the reason I am a little anxious is that I likely fractured my own lumbar vertebrae a few years ago, which in turn resulted in a slipped disc and a condition which is basically that two of my vertebrae are no longer parallel. At the time that I had injured my spine I only had a localised bruise and a little cut and it was never investigated. Mainly as I also cut my face and broke my nose with possibly concussion so that was concentrated on! So, I think, I am worried that something that could cause problems in the area of the hip and back might not cause huge levels of pain like say a broken wrist (she has already done that, there was no doubt at that time, her wrist was at a funny angle!).

Being over anxious I'm sure Grin

she was in a lot of discomfort this evening, had to give her calpol as she couldn't get comfortable on her side to sleep even though she was very tired. She said her leg and knee is hurting, and that she can't sit for very long before it hurts too much.

I think I will take her along to see the GP tomorrow.

Woke in pain. Both in hip and top of leg. Hurts to get up from sitting, to walk on it, or to move it around. When still, some low level pain but not so bad. She said calpol is not really helping. But, she is not in horrendous pain and is moving around fine despite it hurting. I suspect it's probably a bruised bone or sort muscle or something, but, I think, doctors just to be certain it's not anything more serious.

So the question is minor injury unit, or GP? I am thinking MIU as it avoids duplication and I am not always convinced the GP will do the right thing 'oh yeah, bit bruised' or, if he says it needs an x-ray, i will need to go to MIU anyway.
