I don't get it?? Why would you put a necklace of small swallowable beads on your baby!

Nagoo · 05/08/2013 19:22

Since you asked, I think they are total bollocks, and potentially dangerous as they are beady. They only work if you believe in magic.

FeijoaVodkaStat · 05/08/2013 19:42

They are knotted in such a way that if the cord breaks only one bead will come off.

I did use one for my second child. She went from being the most miserable, in agony, nappy rashy baby to having only mild symptoms within in 2 days on having her anklet on. Yes it may have been a big coincidence, but the way I saw it it did her no harm even if it didn't help (though I honestly believe it did) and it looked nice on her (to the extent I'm a little sad she has finished teething and asked to take it off a few weeks ago)

Nagoo · 05/08/2013 20:09

My children have only ever had really bad symptoms for enough time to buy one and have it posted to you before they improved anyway. It's that third day of no sleep that kills you off, and then they pick up IME.

bonzo77 · 05/08/2013 20:18

Load of dangerous nonsense.

chattychattyboomba · 05/08/2013 20:24

Say what you like but if you haven't tried them, you don't know.
I used them with DD and convinced they work. Used a necklace. Make sure you buy the ones specific for babies and toddlers as they are much safer. Un clasp easily when pulled so no risk of strangulation, very heavy duty string almost impossible to snap, knotted between each bead so in the very rare instance it did snap, only one small bead would come off.
I say go for it.
I usually don't like jewellery on little children but this is different.

FeijoaVodkaStat · 05/08/2013 21:50

Nagoo, I bought one after months of sleepless nights, not 3. The symptoms definitely were not going to improve on their on!

That said, it worked for me, but it's not for everyone. (though it's utter rot it's dangerous, unless you use badly made products from unreputable suppliers - the same as any other product in the world)

emmajones79 · 06/08/2013 09:28

I understand people think they are dangerous but I wouldn't risk my daughter choking I've read loads on them and would buy them from a proper company not fake ones!

I think I will give it a go every thing helps! Thank you everyone! Xxx

Do they help with the dribbling and nappy rash? Dd 8mths is ok cutting her teeth she's got 6 but the dribble pours out of her leaving a rash around her mouth and she gets terrible nappy rash with it. If it helped with that I'd get one!!

emmajones79 · 06/08/2013 11:38

Yeah they do!! Look on the site www.loveamberx.co.uk

Ds3 had an anklet for a few months as he was ill every time he was teething - proper ill - high temp, diarrhoea, wheezing.
We bought one in desperation because we were knackered.

All his symptoms stopped overnight.

worldgonecrazy · 06/08/2013 11:47

DD had one. Don't know if it was the amber, or luck, but we had no teething problems at all. It also looked very cute, and was entirely baby safe. She still loves wearing her necklace.

If you're worried you can always wrap the necklace around their ankle at night. We bought ours from a company called Dino Daisy.

My mum's archeologist friend told me that amber beads have been found in some children's graves - can't remember if it was Bronze Age or Iron Age.

ChunkyPickle · 06/08/2013 11:49

Forget the choking, do you really want to be giving your toddler an unknown dose of an untested chemical?

Calpol is well tested, and works, cream for the face the same. Why would you risk using something else?

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 06/08/2013 15:24

We swear by ours. Ds lost his and within 24h of it being off he was dribbling, crying, irritable, chesty, poor sleep, wheezing. within 24h of the new one being put on all symptoms gone. I've recommended them to friends and the same for them.

Ds has one on his ankle. he doesn't play with it or fiddle it hasn't broken because they are individually knotted. quick release clasp. we got both of ours from amazon from i love amber.

austenozzy · 06/08/2013 15:33

Load of implausible nonsense. Amber doesn't release any chemicals unless heated to a high temperature so there's no feasible way they work.

Calpol worked for our DD. No way would I let a baby sleep with a garotte around her neck even if it did, in some magically woo way, work.

ChunkyPickle · 06/08/2013 16:54

Of course they don't work - I was trying to point out (much as those blog articles do if they're the ones I've already read) that logically, either they don't work, or you're dosing your child with an unknown substance, at an unknown strength and purity, which is strong enough to give a similar effect to Calpol (a known substance, with a known safe strength, for which overdosing would be very dangerous)

FeijoaVodkaStat · 06/08/2013 22:53

My child has never been unwell from having a small string of beads around her ankle.
She has become completely hyperactive at 3am after a dose of calpol. She is not a hyperactive child by the way.

emmajones79 · 08/08/2013 12:55

I think it's each to there own with this! I'm definitely gonna try them! I just want the dribbling to stop! I hate her having to wear a bib all the time!

I do see everyone's point of view though of course and thanks guys!
