Loose poohs in 2 year old

My 2.3 ds has very loose pooh. He has has this problem for a good few months. When we spoke to our GP they said it was fine as long as he drinks plenty, which he does. We quite often have 'leaker' nappies ! Any ideas how to bind him up ??!!

Honestly? I'd take him back to the GP. When DS was 2.5 he still had soft poos, they weren't usually formed, but were occasionally. We were told to get him to the GP as a child that age ought to have solid poos.

We ended up being referred to the hospital for food intolerance. It unfortunately turned out to be more serious than that, although may or may not have been linked to the loose stools... I'm not for a second suggesting that your DS has a serious illness and I realise that my experiences make me over-cautious but at the time we were told he needed to be checked out, regardless.

I would go back and to your GP. It's in my understanding, very unusual for a child that age to still have leaky nappies.

No doubt there's a totally normal explanation. I'm sure there is but

In an otherwise well toddler, this is quite common. See here. As it says on the link, the child should be checked out by a GP for any other signs of illness but in isolation it's usually toddler diarrhoea and they grow out of it eventually.

You must of course go back if you are worried.

2.3yo DS also has this. DB was the same apparently. I mentioned it to the HV the other day (in passing as part of a discussion about something else) and she wasn't concerned. I'm not either - DS is growing well and is a happy child.

Phew! Glad it's not as uncommon as I was led to believe!

Thanks everyone for the reassurance. Apart from the runny nappies he is a very happy, healthy active little boy Smile
