Atropine eyedrops.

Ds 7 has been wearing glasses since 3. His prescription is +5.5, he also has a squint so his eyes turn in rather a lot.

We have previously tried patching to no avail, so now have been prescribed Atropine drops to be used Saturdays and Sundays. One drop twice a day.

My question is first use was yesterday and only one drop was used, yet today his pupil is still dilated and ds says his vision is still blurred, is this usual? As the drops used at appointments at the hospital usually wear off the same day?

Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Hi Hashtag my DS is also 7, been wearing glasses since age 2 and we are now using Atropine eyedrops, We are putting them in every other day.

The effects once the drops are in use take days to wear off. We went away for a week and decided as we we're on holiday that we would give DS a break from the drops, his pupil was still slightly dilated by the time we came home.

Thank you, I will continue with them today then.

How is your ds getting on with the drops?. We went out for a short while to the shops yesterday and ds was a bit embrassed its quite obvious with the difference in size pf the pupils. I caught him walking around with one I closed. He said so nobody can see his big eye.

Sorry x post :)
He's getting on ok, he bumps into things but I don't know if that's the drops or because he's clumsy and doesn't look where he's going.

He doesn't like having the drops in as he says they sting but he's getting braver. We've found an easier way of doing it, he lies on his bed tissue at the ready with eyes gently closed, I carefully put the drop on his eye lid and the he blinks it in iyswim, he says it's better that way.

DS is being treated for a lazy eye and he also has very poor vision in that eye. I'm really hoping this works because we've tried the patches too without much success.
