'Overwhelmed' by travelling??!

Anyone else got an 'overwhelmed' traveller amongst them?? We've been away now for a week but when we travelled here (two short car/train journeys plus a one hour flight into Europe) Ds1 (8yrs) was slate-grey and throwing up from the moment we left our house until we got to our hotel. He has then been 100% fine and dandy all week (even with lots of tram/bus/train travel and long tiring days). Today we return home and are trying to pack up our stuff and he is back to being slate-grey and has already been sick once this morning Confused

Anyone else's DCs struggle like this?? Any wisdom on what to do? Do travel sickness tablets help?! I've now given him one but as I'm not sure it is a 'motion sickness' problem I have no idea if this will help.

I've got one, she gets to sit in the front seat, no books/ipad, she gets to count speed bumps/ traffic lights/ red cars.
I'll tell you in a few weeks if she still dies it, as we are off driving round Europe again!

Is it the flying aspect that's the problem for him? If he has an issue with flying it could be the effects of anxiety causing the vomiting (children, boys especially won't always admit to fear and in some cases will not even recognise it). The other issue could be one of responsibility; how much responsibility does he have for his things? Is he worried about forgetting something en route/leaving it behind and thus only calming down once he's 'safely' at his destination?

Posted too early:

Once you can get to the cause, you have a better chance of finding a solution.

If the problem is flying, then phobia treatment might be the ways forward, if it's worry about losing something en route you may be able to put strategies in place/have practice session where he is 'in charge' in situations where a mistake is easily sorted.

My best friend's eldest hates airports to the point of throwing up and it takes a while to settle, her issue is with the security pat downs...I've lost count of how many security officers have had their uniforms 'christened' by her over the years!
