My DD has been soiling for almost 2 years.she's 5 now.I took her many times to the GP,saw all of them at the practice, only gave her lactulose for ages, won't send for a referral, they just press her tummy and declare there's no blockage.she never had a problem with constipation,it doesn't hurt her to go,she's not scared of toilet,in fact she goes a few times a day.but still soiling every bloody day many times.a part from about a month ago, spent 2 weeks on holiday and only soiled once or twice and very little.Gp finally prescribed movicol, but only a sachet a day.didn't make any difference, maybe made it worst.aaaaAaaaaaaarrrghhhhh pls someone help, this is starting to depress me!plus we r going away in september to visit family, what am I going to do with all the poopy pants!

This is exactly what DS was doing for ages - GP prescribed 2 sachets of movicol a day to clear any blockage. He's still on one movicol a day and has been for a couple of years now. Doc said that him going several times a day was overflow and there was likely to be a blockage somewhere

fedupofpoo · 01/08/2013 15:38

I'm tempted to up her dose myself,as gps here don't have a clue!

If you cannot get a referral through your GP, could you take her to a private paediatrician?

RobotHamster · 01/08/2013 16:21

Having read a lot of threads about movicol on here,it does seem pretty standard to start off with a higher dose.

GP explained that there's no reason not to use it,its fairly inert and just sits in the gut. She also said to try and get DS into the habit of sitting on the loo half an hour after meals, to try and get into the habit at going regularly.

redgreenblue24 · 01/08/2013 16:22

My DS was only diagnosed with impaction by xray no paediatrician was able to feel it and he had never had any hard stools or straining in his life. You need to get to a paed at the very least, ideally a gastro specialist, no hope with just a GP.

Gruntfuttocks · 01/08/2013 16:23

Agree, insist on a referral, this is not normal and you (both of you, that is) shouldn't have to put up with it.

fedupofpoo · 01/08/2013 16:24

I mentioned xray,gp laughed and said u can only see bones with a xray u know :-/

Get another GP, he/she is talking bollocks. Impacted poo definitely shows up on Xray as do many other things apart from bones. Jesus wept...

redgreenblue24 · 01/08/2013 17:48

Agree with Grunt abut your GP. Total rubbish my DS has had 2 xrays for impaction on the NHS! Go private for a diagnosis and transfer back to the NHS when you have the diagnosis for the treatment if you don't have insurance and cant afford to stay private. By year one at school everyone is less accepting of this so it is important to save time waiting months for referrals.
