Dietary items causing problems

Hello My 5 year old son has been having terrible problems with his bowls for as long as we can remember I wonder if anyone has any ideas.

Lots of foods seem to effect him causing anything from very loose stools down his legs to just soiling of underwear.

Items we know that cause problems are: bought ice lollies, strawberries, any shop bought jar to cook with i.e. ragu, jelly sweets, jelly, juice. We of course try and omit these items from his diet but there are other things that cause this problem too that we haven't worked out as it happens on a daily basis.

He is on a sachet of movacol laxative every morning and has x-rays which showed constipation but the Movacol should have sorted that. We've been seeing a consultant for more than 2 years with no solutions.

Just wondered if anyone can glean anything from the list of foods I have mentioned above.

Thanks for any thoughts.

I'm not sure about the foods you have suggested but have you tried a complete elimination diet, start from weaning foods again and slowly re introduce foods to see if there are any clear triggers?
The only thing that springs to mind is all the ones you list are very processed, if you have a 'whole' food diet do you see any improvement?
Are you seeing a dietitian or someone who can advise about food? Not sure what to suggest but 2 yrs under a paediatrician seems like a long time with no answers... In desperation I've turned to using complementary therapies too with my lo's, is that something you could consider to see if it provides any more support?

I am not a health care practitioner but could it be fructose malabsorption? Can't link on phone but Wikipedia has a page on it.

Hi yes seeing a dietician and son has a very whole food diet.

I'll look up fructose malabsorption. Thank you.

He's just been put on sodium picosulfate which I notice contains citric acid which worries me!

Thanks for suggestions.
