Colour Blind?

My DS will be 3 v soon. Both of his grandfathers and colour blind for red and green. Just wondering at what age should I be concerned if he's not picking up colours?

Two of my boys are colour deficient (as they call it now). They did learn colours, but their idea of green is very different to mine! Has he had his eyes tested yet? They can do the test for colour deficiency at the same time. My boys are now 14 and manage fine, there are just some jobs that they won't be able to do, like join the forces or fire brigade. When they were growing up, I looked for pencils with the colour written on and also made sure his form teacher knew.

Dh is colourblind/ deficient.
There's some info here on how it's inherited from the mothers side. here

I do occasionally worry about ds - even though he shouldn't be red/ green colourblind. He mixes up grey with brown and blue with purple. According to the link there is blue colourblindness too so I will read up on that. :)

Dh mixes up red/ green/ orange/ brown. He also has trouble with pink/ grey and blue/ purple. He manages fine with general life and works as an engineer for a massive company. The only things he struggles with are graphs with colour coded keys and traffic lights - he does top, middle, bottom rather than colours IYSWIM.

He wasn't able to join the RAF and I can't trust him to cut the grass after he didn't see the red power lead in the green grass! Hmm

I'm pretty sure there are colourblindness pictures/ dotty numbers you can find online to do a quick test on your ds.

HTH :)
