My nephew suffers very badly from peanut allergy, all he will eat is steak and bread, he is scared to eat anything else, its telling on his health now. I took him to the doctor in Staines Middx, and asked if he could be referred to the Cambridge University allergies clinic. The Dr refused, so what can be done to get him a referral?

Hi apibeeman

My ds is suffering from very similar things to your nephew (he is 9 though so not under adult services). I managed to get an appointment for him with the 2gether NHS (used to be camhs team - child and adolescent mental health team). They are referring him for cognitive behavioural therapy (cbt) for his food anxiety and wrote a letter for the GP to say that allergy testing would be useful to establish exactly what he is allergic to prior to cbt starting so that they know what he needs to avoid and what is ok to try.

Our GP has previously refused to refer him for testing but following the letter from mental health he has made the referral!

My ds mental health referral came through the school nurse so not sure how you would get in with a 23 yr old, but maybe google adult mental health services, I'm sure there is and adult version of 2gether and see if they have a self referral route?

Good luck with your nephew, I hope you manage to make some progress.
