Chicken pox and sore eyes?

DD(5) has come out with chicken pox tonight and ha the usual spots and a temperature. Not good in this weather!

She is complaining of sore eyes and her eyes look red and watery. Is this normal?

I have given calpol and piriton.

Should I worry about the eyes or is it just par for the course to get sore eyes?

Hi lovely,

Might be worth taking her to your nearest pharmacy tomorrow. The pharmacist may be able to give her some drops to make her eyes more comfortable.
Chicken pox is viral so nothing can really get rid of it it will have to run its course Sad
Shouldnt be anything to worry about though Smile. Hope she is better soon.

I have to go into town tomorrow anyway so I'll pop in and see the pharmacist. thanks. as long as i know it isn't a serious side effect.

Thanks

I wouldn't take her to the pharmacy as she will be infectious.

Instead, I would get a phone consult with the GP and discuss it with them. If it looks like it is spreading inside her eyelids, she will need to be seen but they will be able to give you more info.

You could just try some normal eye drops to see if that helps

I wouldn't have taken her to the pharmacy don't worry Grin

Got some virasoothe stuff.

Her eyes look fine this morning so perhaps it was a bit of hayfever at the same time. if they look sore again later I'll call the Gp surgery.

thanks.

Not contagious once spots are out......pharmacist can b more direct than going through gp. Although my pharmacy is attached to our gp practice so i have easy access to either.
Virasooth is great stuff pretty sure u cant use in your eyes though!

Hope shes not too itchy in this heat!

It's contagious until the all the spots have crusted over see here usually 5-6 days after the rash starts. That makes her still infectious but with a sensible mum. Hope she's feeling better op Smile

thanks for asking... she's doing ok thankfully. not complaining much, got some big ones but not as many as I thought. Luckily with the weather we have she's mostly just naked dipping in and out of the pool if she gets itchy. Her eyes were better but she said they felt watery yesterday so ill see how she is today. she's still asleep at the mo. Smile
