Our 5 month old DS has been having a runny nose, coughing, red eyes, runny nose for over 6 weeks now. After various trips to the GP, when they said it was just a cold, today the Dr said it was hay fever and gave us some Piriton. He took a dose in the morning and was fine throughout the day (in Nursery), but once he got home, within 5 minutes, started coughing, sneezing, rubbing his eyes, crying, etc.

Does someone have a baby with hay fever? How long will it take to see an improvement now he's taking meds?

We have a cat at home, and I'm worried it is the cat because he seems to get worse in the house...

DS2 always had bad hayfever, but the meds are pretty instant - they don't last long though and he has to take them everyday.
Don't rule out the cat though! I use hayfever medication to stop allergic reactions to cats - the allergic reaction is pretty much the same as hayfever.
If the piriton doesn't work ask the GP to try something else. DS2 had to try several different medications before anything worked.
There are also all the rules like 'don't dry bedsheets etc outside', 'keep bedroom window closed to keep pollen out', 'wash hands/face as soon as come in from outside to get pollen off'.
