not sure where to put this but any recommendations? (obviously will keep out of sun but in turkey this wont be possible 100% of the time)

Most suncreams say to check with your doctor before using on babies under 6 months. If you want a natural suncream then Badger do a great one.

I know its hard but baby needs to be kept in the shade. Sun creams are not suitable under 6 months.

colditz · 09/07/2013 00:35

In turkey it needs to be done 100% of the time, regardless of how much suncream you use, or your baby will be very very ill. Either keep the baby in the shade 100% of the time or don't take the baby to Turkey.

Look, I don't mean to be horrible, but what were you thinking when you booked the holiday? Did you book it before becoming pregnant or something? It is possibly the worst place on Earth to take a tiny baby in the summer.

Herhonesty · 09/07/2013 05:17

Colditz you are being somewhat ott. People do have babies in turkey by the way, they don't keep them in dark rooms all day and they don't die.

It's not a holiday.

My full intention is to keep d&c in he shade 100% of the time but Just sometimes this won't happen eg feet poking out of buggies/ car seats

It was actually a gp with a dermatological specialism who told me to use sun cream. Like lots of other healt recommendations the 6 month rule is n part there to stop people thinking they can put young babies in the sun for long periods of time with sun cream on. GPS words not mine.

When DS was almost 3 months we went to Cyprus for a long holiday. He was 100% of the time in the shade. 3 months is far too young to be getting any sun Sad

I like the aldi factor 50 one for sensitive skin. my ds (now a toddler) has very sensitive skin and had reacted to a lot of other sunscreens. also it is a very light non sticky cream so it seems to feel nicer for him

chickensaladagain · 09/07/2013 06:06

Both my dds have severe eczema and I would second the aldi sun cream -never had a reaction unlike some of the more expensive brands

For what it's worth I think you are being sensible not relying on shade, if you are walking down the street with baby in a pram it is pretty much impossible to keep them fully in the shade at all times

nellyjelly · 09/07/2013 06:15

Those shade a babe covers for buggies are good. UV protection but keeps them cool and covers whole pram.

wallpaperaddict · 09/07/2013 06:42

If you have to use suncream then I'd recommend a natural one. Green people do one that I use on 2 yr old DD. also definately get a shade-a-babe cover for your pushchair. They are brilliant, I used one for DD first summer. Keeps them cool and Provides UV protection.

Those shade covers look great! Hopefully that will solve most of your problems. The badger suncream I mentioned earlier is a completely natural broad spectrum mineral suncream that blocks the sun rather than using chemical 'absorbers'. Even the Green People one has the isoamyl p-methoxycinnamate in it.That really put me off it. I switched to Badger about 6 years ago and I've never wanted to look for anything else.
