Have I OD'd DS with paracetemol?

DD5 has been really poorly with an war infection since Friday. She has had very high temps & has been getting round the clock paracetemol & ibrourophen.

I have had very little sleep & tonight when she was due more paracetemol in a daze I gave about 1.25mls to my 7 month old DS instead before realising what I was doing.

It's the 250mg/5mls of paracetemol so not suitable for under 6's. DS is allowed up to 5mls of infant paracetemol which is 120mg. I right in thinking that what I gave him iworks out to less than this?

Yes, 1.25mls at 250g/5mls is 250/4 = 62.5mg.

I don't know about officially, but I expect it's ok as long as there ae no other underlying health issues. My newborn was prescribed 2.5ml of the baby - 6yo stuff, and it must be roughly equivalent. He had it once every 4 hours for 1 day. Other than relieving pain, there were no other effects.
Keep an eye on your 7mo, maybe check before you go to bed?
Hopefully a mumsnet doc can give you more accurate/official advice soon.

I would ring nhs direct to put your mind at rest, but I wouldn't worry too much, when my dd2 was admitted to hospital after a febrile convulsion I couldn't believe how much of the stuff they were pouring into her,

I accidentally overdosed my DD with paracetomol when we were in Spain a couple of years ago - I think I gave her twice the dose she should have had because it was a different strength and I didn't realise. I rang the Dr and he was completely unphased. He said the safety margins built in to what you can give at home and what is medically allowed are very generous.

OP I feel for you. I have always feared doing the same especially when exhausted so in case it helps you in future what I do is put the medicine away out of easy reach so that I have time to think before I reach it and I also write the date and time and amount given each time (I keep a small kiddies notepad and pen in the medicine box) and then make a note of when the next dose is due. I also set a kitchen timer. So sorry and hope that the above replies have helped you.

according to the figures you gave, you have definitely not overdosed him

but also, the over the counter paracetamols allow something like half the dose that is comfortably safe to give.

When in hospital the dr can give a lot more/stronger and it is still safe.
