Rotavirus vaccine

My little boy is 17 weeks old and I took him for his 3rd lot of vaccinations today. They added a new vaccine for rotavirus as well and gave me a leaflet to take home. When I got home I read the leaflet and was a bit worried to see that it said the first rotavirus vaccine should not be give after the child is 15 weeks old. I phoned them up and asked why they had given him the first dose when he was over 15 weeks and they just said it wouldn't matter. Now he has a raging temperature and is not well. Not sure what to do. I hope they haven't harmed him in any way - is there anywhere I can find out more about this.

That's awful Lesley. :( They really should have done more to reassure you. The vaccine has only been introduced this week so maybe they made a mistake. I hope he's feeling better now. There's a rotavirus thread over on the vaccinations board at the moment.

Yes they should have assured you that it was okay. My DD had it today and is 13weeks and is really, really cranky.

The NHS website states pretty clearly that it shouldn't be given to those beyond 15weeks www.nhs.uk/Conditions/vaccinations/Pages/rotavirus-vaccine-questions-answers.aspx#misses

But there are of course always exceptions, they should have told you if you were one of them. Hope your DS is coping okay.
