5yr Old With Facial Warts :(

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 01/07/2013 22:33

I am so stressed with this Hmm.
My DD7 has had warts on her fingers and knees for about 4 yrs now.

We have tried treating them with salicylic acid and duct tape to no avail - in fact they are spreading across to her other knee and down her legs.Hmm

Our DS5 has had a wart on his chin since the age of 2.
He saw a dermatologist last year who prescribed a low dose acne cream to try and irritate the skin into kick starting the immune system.

But again to no avail - DS's have spread all over his chin - loads of tiny ones that are getting bigger every day.

He also had them developing under his eye .

I am feeling so stressed by this because freezing them or using salicylic acid for our DS is not an option due to the risk of scarring.

Both our DS and DD are now getting bullied because of the warts.

Has anybody at all had success with facial warts in children?

I'm so frightened of it affecting their self esteem.

I used Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream on top of neat tea tree oil on molluscum.

IfUSeekAmy · 06/07/2013 20:06

Ok thanks, I'll get some tea tree oil and give that a go. I have some La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume which is antibacterial so I could try that too.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 08/07/2013 23:56

Hi ladies - mine DS and DDs are deffo warts not molluscum
.
And alas I have tried the homeopathic route to no avail ...

I was reading on the Internet that some people have been treating them with hand sanitizer ?! But maybe I'm just clutching at straws now.

Why o why are they suddenly having a growth spurt and popping up all over the place?

I am definetly pursuing private treatment over school hols .

Has anybody had any bad experience or heard any stories about the lasering method ?

Thanks so so much to all who have contributed :)

Ifuseek its Thuja ( the homeopathy).

You can start with 30c tablets which you can get in big Boots stores ( or amazon ) and at the same time treat with thuja cream ( which is available from amazon ).

Good luck x

Ps Nerf you are right - the nhs are really interested tbh unless it's life and limb.

Will let you know when I have got an private appointment :)

Thanks, I tried Thuja before but I didn't perservere with it and I often forgot to give it to her. I've been scouring the Internet and I think my DDs are flat warts but still not 100% sure. She has couple of little lumps on her top lip now too but they don't look the same so could be unrelated. I read about the hand sanitizer too, I'm just cautious about using stuff on her face. But for fingers it might be worth a shot. I will definitely get some more thuja though

Nerfmother · 12/07/2013 22:43

Please do, I'd be interested to know. Tbh I really think sometimes just blast the bloody things.

RoxyFox211 · 13/07/2013 17:58

Feel for you, don't have any other advice to add though really as I always thought freezing was the most effective way to rid them, but obviously that's not possible in this case. Buzzuca is it called? That might be worth a go. Ridded me of mine that I had on my thumb for a few months in primary school. I think that usually the body gets fed up with warts and gets rid of them, I don't think they are a permanent thing if that's any consellation.

IfUSeekAmy · 14/07/2013 11:50

nannyplum have you had a look at SK:N clinic website? They treat childrens warts and look promising from what I've read on their site. They use a laser to stop the blood supply getting to the wart I think. You get a free consultation.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 14/07/2013 20:24

Ifuseek - how strange yes I have looked at that clinic :)

I went past it on the bus the other day and then googled it ... They have 2 clinics in the uk that primarily specialise in children's dermatology , the one is in Birmingham.

Am really considering the lasering but just concerned about the risk of altering the pigmentation in his skinHmm.

Bloody things.

I'm getting so desperate I keep playing with the idea of using Dr Scholls tiny salicylic acid plasters on his chin.

I know that's a stupid idea. I'm just desperate Sadand worried for him.

IfUSeekAmy · 14/07/2013 21:38

It says it doesn't affect the healthy skin around the warts but as for pigmentation I suppose they might be able to tell you? I'm going back to the dr this week if I can get an appt and tell them that my DD's are spreading. I've started her on the Thuja tablets and cream. I've told her now they are just little blisters and she has to take some vitamins to make her body strong. I really don't want her to become self conscious about them because other people don't notice, it just bugs me because I know they are there.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 15/07/2013 07:26

Mm perhaps I will join in with you and re-start the thuja :)

DD has tiny little dr scholl medicated salicylic acid pads all over hers , which I have then put a plaster over to stop them coming off.

I bought them from Amazon they don't sell them in the UK- they have come from America ( the lengths we go to Smile)

IfUSeekAmy · 15/07/2013 10:48

I hope the dr scholl pads help. My daughters are right on the front part of her nose and it just looks like a slighter darker patch of skin at the minute. Let me know how your DD gets on with the pads. Mine is being very good at taking her thuja 4times a day and I put the cream on at bedtime. Will take a few months to see if any improvement though probably

MadeOfStarDust · 15/07/2013 12:24

Wartner is really good for hand/feet/knee areas - has a fine applicator and works quickly (much better for us than bazooka)

My DD has mosaic warts on her big toe - a mass of warty/verruca mess (wartner/bazooka etc does not help these) and we are trying the hand sanitizer method right now... just rubbing some on and letting it dry twice a day. Only 2 days in - nothing to report yet....

IfUSeekAmy · 15/07/2013 17:20

Good Luck with the hand sanitizer. I saw some at the checkout when I was shopping today and meant to get it but I forgot. Let me know how you get on with it stardust

valiumredhead · 15/07/2013 19:25

A friend's ds was told to use banana skin on warts, same as Verrucas.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 15/07/2013 22:55

Stardust thanks for the Wartner info - that one will be the next product to try then - ( for DDs warts not DSs).

Am going with the hand sanitizer until I can afford a private appointment for DS .

It would be my dream to send him and my DD back to school in Sept wart free.

I've got appt with dr later as the ones on her fingers look worse. I think they are periungual warts and from what I've read online, they can cause the nails to lift and fall off. She already started losing nails last summer and had blood tests and they came back borderline low iron so she had iron supplements and her nails have been fine since. I am going to push for a proper answer to what I can do to help her when I am at dr, I don't want other kids at school to notice her hands and not want to touch her. DH says I shouldn't make an issue of it and not mention it to DD but I have to show her hands and face to the GP so it's tricky because then she will know they are there whereas now she doesn't notice them. They look like ragged cuticles unless you look closely.

IfUSeekAmy · 16/07/2013 09:55

I know nannyplum, to send them back in Sept without warts would be lovely wouldnt it. It's on your mind all the time. I really hope we can all find a solution!

IfUSeekAmy · 25/07/2013 10:21

Hi nannyplum how are things? Any impr

IfUSeekAmy · 25/07/2013 10:21

battyralphie · 25/07/2013 11:58

my Mum used to use fresh dandelion juice...but have no idea if it works, it was an old cure for warts that was passed down. She used to snap off the flowers, and a sort of milky juice wells up, and that was what she used.
