DD Age 5 smelly armpits

My dd who is 5 has always had smelly armpits even though she has a bath at night and then if needed we wipe her armpits in the morning I am not sure what we can do as I don't want any children at school noticing she is smelly.

Can you use deodorants on children or are there ones specifically for them?

TIA

I think I would pop down to the docs to make sure there is not a hormonal imbalance as it's quite unusual for a child that young to smell especially if they are bathing/showering daily ? I would guess that an unperfumed roll on deo would not do a lot of harm and would help, but I'd still get it checked out though just to be on the safe side.

I second a trip to the GP. Might be a simple fungal infection?

You can get herbal deodorants which are not anti perspirants like these, they are aluminium free and they do fragrance free ones.

Do you use bar soap to wash under her arms? It is more effective than shower gels and liquid soaps at removing smells.

I find my dd (4) has this sometimes when she eats certain foods, is ill, has not drunk enough water that day or has a sweaty night.

Thanks for the reply, I will get her an appointment at the doctors and in the meantime I have just brought a bar soap and I have been making sure she drinks plenty as I didn't realise there could be a connection. Thank you all Smile

dd1 had smelly pits for the first time aged 4. It came and went - she could go months without any BO, then have weeks when it was really noticeable - so I imagine hormonal swings accounted for some of it.

But no premature adolescence. She's now 9.5 and a bit ahead of some of her peers, but not all by any means - a little hair developing, and recently breast buds starting to swell a tiny bit. Not out of the ordinary.

I bought Tom's of Maine deodorant for her, when she was littler, as it is natural - and it worked perfectly for years. In the past few months it no longer has, so she switched to Bionsen and finally Sure for sensitive skin.

dd2, who is 6.5, has recently started having very slightly whiffy pits on a hot sweaty day....all seems so early to me, as I didn't have any BO till a teen and then very little, and Tom's of Maine works fine for me now! But I guess dh's genes...Wink
