Just back from out of hours, ill 3 year old, tonsillitis. In this day and age, why the hell are they giving out sugar free orange medicine, can not get her to take it. Its 11 pm. up since 6. last bloody straw. Don't they make nice yellow banana medicine any more? I used to love being ill so I could have my nice yellow medicine. This is so cruel, she is hysterical now. What did your kid get for tonsillitis, does everyone get given this? rant.....

That's a good idea re the chocolate button. DS is 2 and just gets so worked up I try and get it over as quickly as possible.

Thanks sashh. I wasn't aware of that. Dd was on co-amoxiclav for a dog bite. We did try it in milk and hot chocolate but the smell was a giveaway.

Just sryinging it in resulted in dd spitting it out, even when we held her nose and mouth shut. I decided that was too traumatic to repeat.

Always remember dd2,then 5, standing in the kitchen and saying"that is the worst thing I've ever tasted" after a dose of flucloxacillin. To be honest it is pretty foul and chalky tasting. As a pharmacist I frequently get parents asking me what the medicines taste like and unfortunately I have to be honest with them.

The red one is evil. Pure food colouring which is banned in some Scandinavian countries and in the IS & Canada. Disguise the taste - fine, but why have to colour it so much. My DD had a massive reaction to it Hmm

It's only a few specific antibiotics that can't be taken with fruit juice (I think it's ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, doxycycline and tetracycline) so you should have been fine with co-amoxiclav.
