Fever and vomiting every 2 weeks?

DS had the MMR at the start of March as did DD (he is 6 and she is 8 - we had them done late as I was worried about autism but after the recent outbreak came to my senses). 6 days later they were both very sick for 24 hours with vomitting. DD has been fine since but DS had a testicular infection with swelling and very high temp a week later and since then has had a fever for a couple of days every 2 weeks or so - starts with vomitting which stops but fever lasts 48 hours. He is ill again now and has been missing a lot of school. He is not normally a sickly child and normally gets ill once a year.

This is really concerning me now. I will take him to the GP on Monday but thought I would ask here in case anyone has experienced similar?

Sorry no experience but you could try googling cyclical vomiting syndrome and seeing if it rings any bells?

AngryFeet · 28/06/2013 21:31

Thanks Bea but the fever is the main issue, he usually vomits once maybe twice then is ill with fever for 2 days with no further vomitting.

Angry, my DD (2.6) has random 36-72 hour fevers every month-ish. Certainly at least four in last four or five months. I say random because there is no obvious pattern or cause, and no other symptoms except whining (!)

I've not worried about it, though have vaguely wondered if this is normal. My CM who has been one for 20 years sees them all and is not concerned (she is very solicitous).

Will watch with interest.

Thanks scarecrow. I will keep you posted. He is asleep now and snoring loudly which he never does and his head is drenched in sweat. He chats deliriously when I go in to open his window or move his cover. Finally got some calpol in him as after 2 days I needed to cool him down. Cool washcloths not quite up to task. If he is still ill in the morning I will go to OOH I think.

Fever pretty much gone (bit on/off but not too hot) but still not well. Nose is running a bit and he is swallowing like he has a sore throat and is very lethargic and dopey looking. No rash or pain anywhere (well I don't think so but he says he feels fine so not sure whether to believe him or not!).

Today is so hot I think OOH would be a nightmare for him so have kept him on the sofa this afternoon. His appetite is slightly better but not as it normally is :(

angry, funnily my dd just come.out of a three day one herself - she has got what I think is a post viral rash on front and like your ds has runny nose and husky voice though she has not complained of a sore throat...

I am glad your ds had Calpol. this time I had to use Infant Nurofen as well as Calpol as Carpool alone didn't seem to help - poss worth a try? Do hope he bounces soon.

Like your ds, DD usually pretty healthy (touch wood) and I sometimes.wonder if the fever is an efficient sign.of her.body fighting off something which might generate more "symptoms" in other children. I have no medical education.so.this could well be codswallop Smile

Wishing you an easy night

Thanks scarecrow. It is my mums 60th birthday tomorrow and we are having a big surprise party for her in a posh hotel. I hope he is feeling better. It would be so disappointing for her if he wasn't there :(

Yet again he woke up seemingly ok but no appetite and as the day went on he got more and more lethargic. Something is really not right, GP in the morning.

poor lad, sounds like GP right move. My DD still no appetite and v whiney (beyond norm!) Will be interested in GP advice.

Went to the GP and he has no answers :( Just said bring him back when he is really ill next time with the fever (he is a bit better today although still not himself and constant running nose). Feel a bit fobbed off and annoyed to be honest.
