Ewwww really worried about DDs big toe, utterly manky infection

DD 3 had a v small cut in the crease under her big toe. It had a small infection which has got bigger and bigger. Today her toe is twice its size, the cut is weeping manky pus, individual blisters of pus have gone down the side of her foot and up over her toe. It's red raw where some of them have popped and bleeding in other places.

We went to the walk in centre on Monday when it was nowhere near this bad and the nurse gave antibs and stuck a steri strip over it. Went back today because its so much worse. Saw a doctor today who actually physically baulked at it Shock. She gave new strong antibs and a dry iodine powder to cover it. She also said the nurse should not have put a steri strip on it (it just sat inside the cut until DD pulled it off)

The pharmacy didn't have the powder she prescribed and said its not even made anymore. The GP said if no improvement by 9am she needs iv antibs at the hospital. Her foot just looks worse and worse, she can't walk on it and its just gross.

Would you take to AE tonight or wait until the morn? Are the new antibs even going to make any difference by 9am?

Blimey your poor DD. Isnt it amazing that we thankfully live in a time with anti biotics. When you see or here of infections getting as serious as this it makes you wonder what life was life pre antibiotics.

I really hope your DD is on the mend now.

Quick update, toe is looking slightly better, nose sore is twice the size it was (much easier for DD to touch/pick) really hoping it won't scar!

She really should not pick it at all. Could you make her wear some gloves or reward her for not touching her face? The infection can spread further if she picks.

Hope she gets better soon, if not, best to go back to A&E.

Pantone

How's your dd doing today?

Do try and stop her touching / scratching bribery if necessary

What about making dock puppets with her? And maybe doing some own glove designs? Maybe it would help to keep her hands busy

The flucloxacillin evidently tastes gross, I'm bribing with sugar paste balls

it really is the most vile medicine on the planet, poor ds had to have it and i tried hiding it and it just made everything else taste vile. It was only when i tasted did i realise how bad it was.

Also i know you couldnt get iodine but [[http://www.boots.com/en/Savlon-Dry-Antiseptic-Skin-Healing-Powder-Spray-50ml_5518/ savlon do a dry iodine spray which is very good at drying up wounds.

Thanks for asking! Took her toe tape off this morning and there was some loose skin flapping around, gently removed it and her WHOLE TOE skin came off Shock. Imagine cutting the top of a glove fingertip off? It was exactly like that. Gross but fascinating!! Lots of lovely new fresh skin underneath, very pale, no redness and NO weeping!

Nose has dried up and a few other satellite lesions on her face are retreating. Nipple and back ones are still gross but I've got the dressing clinic tomorrow so will get a good check then.

She's started hiding now when the medicine comes out and I'm having to pin/bribe/coerce her not to spit it out.

I can actually put the skin over my finger just like a glove tip! DS begged me to let him keep it...it's in the bin!

Arh bless her.

I have tried in the past with DD, when she was little!

We called it magic medicine! You have to find away of getting it in somehow. I used money with dd!

Sounds like you are getting there, fingers crossed for tommorow and a continued improvement

piprabbit · 04/07/2013 16:43

Ooh - I had all the skin on my hands and feet peel off during treatment with tons of ABs when I had septicemia. It was weirdly fascinating and the doctors were fascinated too. Hopefully it means your DDs toe is well on the way to healing.
