Dentist Charges

What is the going rate for a white filling for a child please? Can you still get them on the NHS and just pay the extra? My dentist has quoted me £52.50 and says white fillings aren't available on the NHS. I don't entirely trust him as he has overcharged me for treatment before and the receptionist advised me to double check before booking (I think she's has had a few complaints). If that's the going rate, of course I'll pay, but seems a lot for a child.

Oh, before I get flamed for allowing DD to need a filling, she has enamel issues, I do my best.
:)

Both mine had them (bad mummy) and both times white fitted for free! (both husband and myself pay at same dentist). As an adult i paid £50 ish to have my mercury filling changed to white.

That's what I would have thought, free for kids (or a nominal charge for the slightly more expensive filling), but not the private price. £52.50 seems like a lot.

I would charge same price as an adult filling as I would for a child. As this is what it costs. It is possible to get certain white fillings on the nhs but larger fillings but usually be amalgam. We charge on a time basis, and children usually take longer to treat than adults. You can't 'top up' the nhs fee its either private or nhs.

My DD had a white filling about a year ago. It was £22. It did fall out and need replacing but by then some children's NHS places at the dentist had come available so it was free to replace.
