DS(2) has suspected epilepsy, we're waiting for an EEG. After seeing the consultant I was pretty much left in limbo - no advice, no information. It's taken me 3 weeks just to come to terms with the fact this is actually happening, I had thought it was just behavioural.
However, it now seems to be getting worse. He doesn't have convulsive fits, they are seizures during which he makes repetitive arm and leg movements and tenses his face and in the last few days he has started shouting out during them.
I have done some reading on various charity sites and have tried to educate myself however something nursery suggested and I have witnessed today is concerning me.
In large busy groups of children (think 5yo and under running around manic and chasing each other) if he is approached too closely (and not by me or dh) during the process of a seizure he hits out although it is not always during a seizure. He has been hitting for a short while but I had put it down to 'a phase' that he needed to learn how to behave appropriately however it has gone on for sometime now and is getting worse not better. Nursery suggested on Friday that sometimes it seemed to be down to too much sensory stimulation when he lashes out.
I have used the same technique as I did with my DD when she went through a hitting phase (copying another child at nursery) and it lasted at most 2 weeks. With DS it has been about a month and it's getting worse not better.
Could it part of it or is it just another development milestone? I want to try to deal with it appropriately.
