Hearing problems vs disobedience [hmm]

I know many a parent has suspected that their children has a hearing problem - they don't hear when called for dinner, they don't respond to simple instructions - but that's a more deliberate 'selective' hearing on their part.

My DD(6) is often in a world of her own and it takes persistence to get her attention. Tonight, though, she asked me to put some music on in her room as she went to sleep. I had actually already pressed play and she genuinely couldn't hear the (normal volume, not quiet) CD.

Anyone had any experience of this ? should I get a referral for a hearing test from the GP?!

I would ask for a hearing test if you are worried. I have done so for my DDs, both have had previous hearing tests due to speech issues but DD1s behaviour has changed. Last time this happened, she was tested and it was found she had glue ear.

Definitely worth asking.

I would ask for a referral. Ds has bad glue ear (2 sets of grommets so far) and ENT said that most parents don't realise their child has difficulty hearing.
