Baby staring into space- blank face

Hi
Was walking my 5 month old dd stopped to adjust her blanket- her fave scared me she was just staring into space- blank face. I picked her out of pram which got her attention and she's alert and seems fine now.
Is this normal or do I need to do anything? Obviously will keep an eye on her she's never done it before.
It lasted a couple of seconds and we were outside so she may have just been looking at the trees etc but it was her blank expression seemed strange

Thanks for replying- I noticed she had a little rash too so took her to out of hours to have a check. They said not to worry but keep an eye on her staring if she does it again. And rash is heat rash so will just watch her

I have read that babies of this age get visually 'stuck' on an object and literally can't look away. They can get a bit upset by this too apparently. Just a thought!

Ds does this when he's tired, it's almost like he's asleep with his eyes open iykwim. Don't be afraid to see your Dr if you're worried, maybe record it on your phone so you can show them

Agree with sunshinesue, it's a normal sign of tiredness, a very useful cue that she will drift off soon.

Yes agree perfectly normal, they just zone out!

nellyjelly · 23/06/2013 20:52

Was she tired? Both of mine totally did this before they started to go to sleep.

Wishfulmakeupping · 23/06/2013 21:46

She didn't go to sleep for a while after but we'd just got my mums so everyone was talking to her which may have kept her up Iyswim. She's not done it today so will keep am eye out hopefully like you've all said its just normal tiredness
