Has anyone's child had baby teeth pulled out under a local?

This is what my dentist wants to do to ds2, who is only seven. I'm a bit dubious, but have agreed to the appointment, however, is this a good idea?

DS1 did as part of his orthodontic treatment, but he was 9 or 10. Apparently it was fine.

Was for teeth that weren't pushed out by adult teeth, btw, not cavities.

I would have thought that was standard. DS2 (7) has to go to London under general when he's nine, but he has to have 4 back teeth out. Ouch! They said if he wants to be a hero they'll do it under local, but with 4 they wouldn't advise it. If its just one I'm sure he'll be fine.

Yes, we have shark teeth coming in behind his top two incisors which just won't drop out, and it's given him two abscesses now.

It's two, but they are two front teeth.

God yes. Ds had this when only 3 after an accident. Dental surgeon persuaded us against a general as it was safer. It was awful at the time but quick. Mind ours was all immediate and scary, your ds's would be much calmer.

DS aged 6 had two bottom teeth out (shark teeth too). He had a bit of gas and a local and didn't even realise what the dentist had done, it was so quick. The injection stung him a bit (ow!) but he was fine and so excited to have something to leave for the tooth fairy. Not traumatised at all.

I did, years ago, when I was about 12. The injection stung a bit bit after that I didn't feel a thing. Best of luck with it.

Dd age 5 had a tooth removed under local after getting out of the chair and walking out when the mask came near her face!!! I distracted her from looking at the needle as its what I hate. It was a long time ago and I don't think they use gas anymore at the dentist.

Massively unprofessional (I'm a dentist) I always always have to stifle a laugh when people talk about "front bottom teeth".

dd was offered the choice of general or local - she chose the local and the most painful bit by far was the injection of the local anaesthetic. In fact she jumped in surprise when she realised they had actually pulled the tooth out as she thought they'd just been sizing up the pliers.

Thing is the injection of local does not have to hurt, it is all down to the dentist's technique. Use topical(not essential) and inject really really slowly.

I don't mind dental treatment because I only go to unrushed dentists who have time to do stuff painlessly.
