10 week old ff poo help

My 10 week old has been formula fed since birth. (I couldn't breast feed but that's another story!)
He had rabbit todd poos for the first few weeks and the hv told me he was constipated and to give him a little prune juice in his water and massage his belly and push his legs up to help him. He nearly alwsys had a rabbit todd poos in each nappy and would have a few more if I pushed his legs up when I changed him
For the past 8 weeks we have what I assume is normal poo for a ff baby ( sort of peanut butter). I stopped giving him the prune juice but he still has between 1-2 oz of cool boiled water a day but he only does a poo when I help him. I have changed a nappy 4 or 5 times and hes had a poo on his own so he can do it.He does have a poo nearly everyday so I haven't been worried but the other day he went about 36 hours without a poo and he seemed really uncomfortable until I helped him. Is this normal? Should I carry on helping him or see if he manages on his own? Should I see a doctor?

what formula do you use as some can be more constipating than others? You could try changing it to see if it helps

I use cow and gate ready made formula, I did think about switching to another formula but had read somewhere that you weren't supposed to switch but I think it might be worth a try. Thank you x

I found the formula milk quite constipating too. What worked for my DD was to make up the bottle as normal and then add another half ounce of boiled water to each bottle. Again, this is something you are advised not to do, but it was a way of getting extra water into her and it worked for me.

I'd take to GP. They may give you some movacol.
My now 6 yr old was permanently constipated when he was younger - after we started a sachet of this a day it sorted itself out. It took a loooong time to potty train him because of it. He no longer needs it.

I've been to baby group this morning n the hv suggested keeping him on the same formula n just trying to let him poo on his own rather than helping him. She said not to leave him for days n days but to just see what happens. If that doesn't work then to try changing the formula but to give it a good week n then if that doesn't work to go to the gp.

DS had a poop all on his own yesterday (even better that it was DH turn to change him...hee hee) so maybe I was making him poop everyday when really he feels comfortable popping every other day. Fingers crossed he will carry on pooping on his own now. Thanks for all the help and advice tho people :-) x
