Lump in baby's thigh - should I worry?

6 mo DS has a lump the size of a cherry deep in his thigh. Just discovered it at bath time. I had been planning to try get a doctor's appt in a day if two if it is still there, but it is now nighttime in Australia, and I am worrying it is something sinister. I smacked his ankle against a kitchen bench a few days ago - felt awful, but no bruise developed. But could it be a clot or something? Worried.

Is it where you banged it? If so, could be a haematoma? I think these are sort of harmless under-the-skin bruises.

If there's any redness, swelling, heat or pain in the area I would call GP. It's always safest to call with little ones if you're worried.

Or alternatively, it could be a gland of some description.

Thanks Ragusa. It was his ankle that got banged - lump is his thigh. No redness or pain and i think no swelling. Just remembered: he had his six month vaccinations last week. Is at the site of that?

Dd had those lumps where jabs had been for months and months. Hv told me not to worry.

I was going to say, has he had any jabs recently? Grin

V common and should go on its own. If the lump gets bigger or seems sore then see your GP but both of mine have had little cherry lumps after all jabs.

I was coming on here to ask you whether he'd had his jabs recently...
