7 year old dd has said when she does a wee she feels like going again straight away. She has no pain or temperature - could it be an infection?

Could be. Lots to drink and take a sample in to the GP surgery.

Thanks Moaning.

Sounds a bit like cystitis (sp? Sorry, crap speller!) to me. Yes, take her to the dr. Paracetamol should help in the mean time. The temperature, pain etc might not be there now but can come on quite quickly, in my bitter experience! Poor dd - hope she is ok!

Thanks neon - I'll take her in after school today before it gets any worse!

She just mentioned it yesterday - I gave her a big glass of water to drink then she said it again at bedtime - she just went for a wee and said she feels like going again - she is her usual cheerful self at the moment but not like her to complain about anything - thank you both for you advice.

When Dd had this it was actually threadworms. This possible cause hadn't occurred to me so she had a couple of weeks of unnecessary distress. From other discussions I have seen on here it is fairly common with girls.

LittleTyga · 11/06/2013 11:48

Wow - what are threadworms? Off to Google not heard of those! Thanks Chocolate.

It sounds like an infection to me - this will clear up very quickly on antibiotics. If you can take a sample in with you it may save a lot of faffing around - I remember when DD had it, when it came to trying to go in the loo at the doctors she couldn't actually do it and became very distressed. You can use a clean jar or pot.

Hope she is better soon.

No cause for alarm but if it doesn't clear up in a little while, might be worth getting checked out at GP, as excessive urination can be symptom of Type 1 diabetes in dc, especially if combined with any of the following: extreme thirst, extreme hunger, weight loss, fatigue and irritability, blurred vision, yeast infection.

(I'm no expert btw, the only reason I know all this is that we had a recent scare with dd who, it turned out, was in the clear - thankfully.)

Hi monikar and super,

Thanks for the tips - hopefully it's not diabetes!

Sure it won't be - only posted just in case!!

My little one was like this. Turns out that it was an intolerant bladder, he had got so used to emptying his bladder at the first need for a wee that he felt he needed to go again as soon as any wee began to build up. With the support of the school we had to retrain him to be able to hold urine for a while. This meant asking him to hold on for another few mins, then 10 mins, then 15 mins etc. I felt awful about this after all those years of asking "do you need a wee" but it did work and quickly too. He is now able to hold his wee for much longer and has only had a few accidents. We did rule out any infections before the gp suggested this course of action. Hope that helps.

lairyhegs that's very interesting. DD1 who's nearly 7 has been complaining of the urge to go to the loo but being unable to do so for a couple of weeks - usually in school. She's been getting quite upset about it in school though seems fine at home and goes without problem. Took her to the GP and her urine sample was clear with the stick test and still clear after testing at the lab. DD sounds very like your DS - she often does tiny wees and I keep telling her she needs to wait a bit longer so that she has more to pass. Outings are always a joy as she claims to want the loo everytime we go past one and I've lost count of the amount of times we've gone in and she's done nothing or just a tiny trickle Hmm.
