Please help. Both my dd's have nits at the moment. I treated them both with Hedrin (waste of time!!) and have since bought a Nitty Gritty comb and have been wet combing with lashings of conditioner every night. Whilst there number has significantly reduced I am still finding the little feckers after two weeks!!! I am reaching the end of my tether with it. Has anyone got any tips for getting rid of them once and for all?

I have a few of my mums remedies: 1) wash hair in vinegar but will smell like greasy chip. 2) use tea tree shampoo and conditioner especially when all have gone they hate scent of tea tree apparently. Also was kids hair in lemon juice but keep up the condition and comb treatment and make sure school know. I wish schools still had the nit nurse! My two dc's had awful nits at there previous school but since we moved and moved schools we haven't had the problem. Oh don't wanna make you itch but treat your hair and any other family members too. Hope these ideas help. Good luck.

Bomper It's a real pain but you just have to keep going with the combing every night until they are gone. If you leave any eggs behind these will hatch and then you are back to square one. What helped with mine when they had lice was to sit them on a dining chair with a Nintendo or game and I would do the combing then. It took ages and DD had loads. I agree with the previous poster - make sure you do everyone in the house. Best of luck.

Do you mind me asking how long it took? I am down to about 8-10 small nits each time. Haven't found a big one in ages so I was hoping I was on the home straight as no more eggs but they just keep coming!! Shock

Took me three weeks, and I got them too! you're nearly there! :)
You can use a hair straightener, it fries eggs instantly, but persistance wins in the end as eggs are easily missed. Battery run nit combs sold at chemist/pharmacy zap them and kill nits as they hatch

It was a few years ago now, but as far as I can remember I did the combing every night for about 3 weeks - this was how long it took to get down to no more nits on the comb. Then I did every few nights for another couple of weeks. DD has only had them once.

If you are down to 8-10 small ones then honestly you are nearly there. It is the adult lice that lay the eggs - the ones you are catching are the baby ones. A few more days should do it. When you have had none for say 3 days, go to every few nights. It's such a pain though and takes so long, but it does work. Good luck.

I would say about three weeks. Then I would check every few nights I check my three weekly just incase. And wash there hair in tea tree shampoo and conditioner all the time. Pick it up in superdrug or the Alberto balsom stuff.
