Please anyone suggest me on this problem of my niece. She is 7 years old and sometimes says that she finds things very small. Once she told that a soccer ball seemed to be of the size of a marble. Her teachers say that sometimes she writes very big letters and alphabets in her notebook. It lasts only for a few seconds. What is this problem, it seems that the frequency is increasing from more than twice a week.

has she had her eyes tested?

beautifulgirls · 28/05/2013 16:10

Sounds like she should take a trip to the GP after getting an eye test if that is all clear? Does she respond to people chatting to her when it happens, any other signs such as being a bit spaced out perhaps??

What you describe is called micropsia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micropsia, so you should go and see the GP and mention Micropsia or Alice in Wonderland syndrome (AIWS).
A CT or MRI can confirm and identify the cause of it.

Sorry , I just re-read my post and I didn't mean to be so brutal. I'm not saying your niece has micropsia, but the visual distortion you describe may be compatible with micropsia or with a similar condition called Alice in the Wonderland Syndrome.
Mention it to your GP and he will send for your niece for further testing.

Thank you everyone for the reply. She has been to her eye specialist but nothing was detected. I think a second opinion is necessary. I will post when any new finding comes up. Thanks again.

Thank you gordonpym for the reply. No, you did not sound brutal, you were just suggesting. So, its absolutely okay. I would definitely talk with her doc with a possibility of the disease you mentioned in your post. Thanks anyways.
