Ds2 fell at pils 3 weeks ago - he was jumping on the sofa and hit his cheek against the corner of a wooden sideboard
(No, I dont know why they let him jump in the sofa)
I put an ice pack on it, gave him some calpol and checked the inside of his mouth and teeth and they seemed fine. No problems eating or drinking.
It's been 3 weeks and although the bruising is mostly gone there is a lump under the bruise - I have googled this and it would seem to be a haematoma.
But.
Today I noticed that when he smiles or moves his mouth there is a sort of dent in his cheek where he hit himself.
Taking him to the gp tomorrow, but do any of you know what this could be?
Am sitting here really worried and dh is being his usual self...I.e. not interested. He convinced me that it would heal and ds2 didn't need to see a doctor. I feel awful.
Please tell me his lovely face isn't permanently damaged? :(

He's gorgeous Smile

If he did break the skin then its possible that he has an infection but he doesn't have any signs somded get him checked out just in case.

Also when my sister was little she hee foot and got a lump and dent it turned out the injury caused a cyst, she and it drained and all was fine, so that's another possibility.

My sisters one was caused by my mum standing on her fort in a pair of stilletoes! Yowch!

Taken him to gp.
The gp agrees that there are now 2 dents but he feels it isn't as swollen as on Tuesday.
He feels (after speaking to max fax doc) that the only issue could be infection but if it was infected it would hurt so hopefully it's not as ds is not complaining of any pain.
Sigh.
I think it may take weeks to fully heal by the sound of it.
Thanks for all the help x

Yes he is FP - and he knows it! :)
Just dropped him off at pre school and all the girls are all over him :)
Stiletto? Ouch!

Just had to do a search of all your threads to find this... For some reason it wasn't showing up in 'threads I am on'

Glad you have seen the gp and there is no infection. It did take ages for ds4's dint to go, it was really gradual and then it was gone. Glad its not hurting him, and he is gorgeous, 'dints' and all Grin

My DD had a very similar injury in Reception after falling face first onto the bottom supporting bar of railings. The school phoned to inform me and down played it - I was horrified when I picked her up! Took her to the minor injuries unit, where she was thoroughly checked over. Nothing broken but her cheek was massively swollen and got worse before it got better.

She had a dent for a very long time but no permanent damage and we took her to Disneyland Paris like that - we definitely got some 'looks'!! Grin

Hope your DS is ok x

Thank you all so much.
Feel a bit better about it today.
Yes, we definitely got some looks mum67!!
5madthings...thanks for all your kindness and sharing your story.
I guess I should just be thankful it wasn't his eye or nearer his mouth (shudder)
Have a lovely weekend x

Badvoc, how did this turn out for you? Desperately wanting to hear that it went away, as my DD has a seven-week-old dent I'm wishing away by the minute.

Badders123 · 15/11/2016 21:31

Hello!
It's badvoc here Smile
Ds2 is now 8 and the dent is gone
It took a LONG time though
Months and months

Badders!!!

Thank you so, so much for replying to this ANCIENT thread. I am so relieved to hear it went away for your son. Did you ever really determine what it was? Subcutaneous scarring? Fat necrosis? A hematoma? I don't really care, I am just happy there's hope it'll go away.

It's not so much the aesthetic of her cheekbone dimple that bothers me . . . it's that I feel like it's my job as her parent to keep her "pristine" or "undamaged" until she is old enough to make her own decisions and mess up her own face. Haha.

Her fall happened in a very sweet moment with her older brother, who was making her laugh by tossing his blanket over her head. She was sitting on the kitchen floor and laughed so hard she tipped over and bumped on the leg of a chair. It looked like nothing but sure enough, big shiner and then a month later, BOOM. DENT.

Anyway, THANK YOU. I will keep the faith and be patient patient patient.

Badders123 · 22/11/2016 20:22

You are welcome Smile
Even though I wasn't even there when ds did it I also felt very guilty!
A mothers lot I suppose!
We went down the max fax route in the end so I don't know what the diagnosis would have been -
I assume it was a haematoma

TheDeep3nd · 23/11/2016 15:53

Yes, this is the cross we mothers bear. Guilt on guilt on guilt!

When you say you "went down the max fax route in the end" . . . do you mean it was surgically repaired? Or it healed on its own? Sorry. I swear I will let this go!

Badders123 · 23/11/2016 15:58

We didn't end up having a referral to max fax.
The dr spoke to the on call max fax dr at the local hospital who said unless it was infected there was nothing they could/would do.
I didn't want to put Ds through a hosptial trip uneccessarily
