Early closure of fontanelle?

Does anyone know about this?

A chiropractor who was looking at 7 m.o. DS2 (to help his constipation) said it felt like his anterior fontanelle had closed ie the plates of his skull had fused - which they shouldn't have yet.

I'm waiting for a GP appointment to ask for a referral to get it checked out.

Hi. Don't have experience of this but just wondered if you can feel his Fontanelle? Babies tend to have different sizes of soft spots and I remember my first sons seemed really big compared to my seconds. Worth checking with GP but you can have a gentle feel yourself to see if you can feel it as the chiropracter may have been mistaken.

Thanks. I have no idea what it should feel like but will have a prod when he's awake.

The chiro did say that 4/1000 babies are supposed to have it, and that he'd never come across one (which he was surprised about) but that DS2's head felt different from what it should have been.

His head seems to be the right size for his age at the moment thankfully.

I'm guessing he's full of crap. Is this chiropractor a pediatric specialist? Does he or she (guessing its a he) have any experience with this problem, because it's pretty rare and usually shows when children are very small. I doubt your dr would miss it.

DS hasn't been seen by a doctor - the chiro said a closed fontanelle was what it felt like and I should see the GP asap to get it checked. I can't get an appt till next week.

I can't feel a soft spot on DS2's head but I don't know what it's supposed to feel like.

He is a paediatric specialist chiro, yes. I hope he's wrong! :)

My godson had this, his head was a really funny shape. His was classed as being picked up late at 5 months, because the HV thought my friend was just being paranoid about her son's head.

I took him to the osteopathic centre for children in Wandsworth today and two osteos agreed his fontanelle is open, although a bit fibrous and much higher up the head than is usual for most babies. They showed me where they could feel it pulsating, though I can't actualy feel that bit myself.

Still off to the GP for a third opinion, but I feel very relieved. :)
