inguinal hernia at 5 weeks ? whats the operating schedule?

we saw a lump at DS left groin area while changing nappy.rushed to A&E where were told that it is inguinal hernia.The doctor on duty said that the surgery would be done at Chelsea and Westminster hospital and he would refer it. My son went on with it 6 week check up and the GP said the same. Its been 2 weeks now , and i am still waiting to hear from the hospital for appointment.
Its worrying me sick so just wanted to ask how much would it take for them to give appointment .or any body else had the same experience.?
my son is exclusively breastfed. and just recently noted that he wakes up with the sound coming from the hernia.???

Sorry pressed post! Contact GP and tell them - you may have been missed in the "system" - my DS1 had same at 4 weeks and was operated on at 6 weeks - had to be specialist paediatric surgeon hence C&W. it isn't an emergency in itself unless it becomes purple in which case it is but still needs seeing to sooner rather than later.

My son had his operation just after his second birthday.

This was done privately so nothing to do with NHS waiting lists. It was just that in his case, it wasn't urgent and his surgeon felt that it would be better to wait until he was a bit older.

My DS had his spotted at six weeks, we were referred to our local hospital who said we would need to wait until he reached a specific weight before they operated but that it shouldn't be painful for DS provided we could 'push it back in' if you u derstand what I mean. We were also told to contact gp if he vomited two entire feeds in a row or if his bowel movements became irregular, at four months the hernia became stuck, DS vomited his milk so we contacted the gp, this was a Friday morning, he was given an immediate appointment at the surgery, we were then immediately referred to our local hospital, where they were unable to operate because the surgeon was not actually based there, so we were transferred to another hospital 100 miles away, he was operated on that weekend and we drove home Sunday night, following the op he was like a different baby, so much more contented and crying much less. Other people will probably have less dramatic experiences of hernias. All I would say is that it would havebeen at least another month maybe longer if we had waited and had not had the vomiting problem.

thanks for all the replies:)).. my doctor actually asked to look for cream or green colour bile, no poo or extremely bloated tummy. he didnt mentioned vomiting or irregular bowel movements.:((..anyways i contacted my surgery, they are going to chase the appointment.
they contacted the hospital , n the hospital didnt have any referaal get .anyways they gave me an appointment .Hopefully now it will be a quick process.:)
