DS (19MO) fell off of the kitchen table today, I turned my back for a second and he walked backwards and landed on his head on the floor.

I rang 999 as he went limp, couldn't walk and was blue and he was taken in an ambulance.

After hours at the hospital he has been given the all clear and they said that he is fine.

I can't help but feel like the worst Mum in the world!

Will this bump to the head affect him long term?

I feel awful :(

Ds was months old, I can't remember exactly but he wasn't rolling yet. I laid him on the bed while I got dressed. Sat o. The bed to put my socks on and with the pressure of my fat arse, pulled the edge of the mattress down (can't think of the right way to phrase that) and ds rolled off the bed like a penguin rolling down a hill. His crying then made him sick everywhere. Calmed him down, calmed me down. Went downstairs with him, and clunked his head off the door frame. Sick again, I'm now imagining having to explain this to SS. Called dh at work to tell him what happened when ds managed to Bounce his bouncer so hard he flopped forward. Thankfully he had the harness on so didn't fall out.

That was my worst day as a mum, until at six mo this we were doing row the boat and I pulled his elbow.

He is now almost 2 and currently refusing to go to bed and pulling my hair! No lasting damage done :o

My dd decided to roll over for the very first time at 4 months, in the middle of the night, out of my bed and onto wooden flooring! She screamed for about a minute then went back to sleep.
I however have never felt worse before or since. I was completely paranoid and set my alarm every 15mins for the rest (5 or 6hours) of the night to check she was ok and still breathing. Was awful, but she was absolutely fine!
Don't beat yourself up, you did the right thing

It all started with falling off the bed, he's also fallen off my kitchen counter, pulled a side table on top of himself, banged head out the back of his buggy onto concrete (I tipped it back, trying out a new pram had just gone 5 doors up so not strapped and didn't occur to me that it was fabric at back), fallen climbing onto a million things and fallen & tripped a trillion.

Every single time I feel horrific, but hes forever got bruises. I once canceled his injections because he had about 5 and i was petrified.

tonight he fell down the stairs when I was turning his bath on :( :(

Dd learned to roll off bed onto hard floor (i was in the other room on the phone saying, it's great, she can't move yet.
Left ds in pram on bus which tipped and he hit the ground head first.

hair wrapped round his tiny finger that needed a scalpel to remove it

My ds2 had that except it was his toe. Had to convince people in A&E who thought I was mad.

Don't beat yourself up, we've all been there. Ds seems to be the brunt of all of our misjudgements! When he was 3 dh pulled his arm during a game and dislocated his elbow. Only this year (he's now 8) I thought he was making a meal of a cold over Christmas/new year. I made him play rugby for his club because I thought he needed to get out and stop moping around. I said the fresh air would do him good. Turned out he had pneumonia......

Thank you all so much for taking the time out to reply.

I am extremely emotional about what happened, DS has been fine today but I can't help but think that I honestly am the worst Mum in the world after this.

I'm sorry to hear everyone's stories but I am glad that your DC's have made a full recovery.

Thanks again, It has made me feel a bit better after reading your replies.

My eldest DD fell down the stairs at the same age; top to bottom, it was awful, and my middle DD rolled off my bed at 4 months... these things happen but we don't make the same mistake twice.

((HUGS))

Welcome to the club, come on sit down and grab a Wine

I am the mother who's baby rolled off the bed and was rushed to the doctors, I was in such a panic the lovely doctor called my husband who had to leave work to come and calm me down.

I'm also the mother who's child gave themselves a black eye by leaning on the corner of a plastic box and flipped it into her own face.

Oh and the mother who's DD fingers got broken when shut in a door by her big sister who passed out when she saw the nail hanging off.

Not forgetting the mother of DD who got a potty training toilet seat stuck on her head and had an ambulance and a fire engine at the house and the fire fighters had to use some scary equipment to get it off.

As I say, welcome to the brilliant mothers just doing their best every day club.

BriansBrain · 06/04/2013 21:54

Ah yes Mrs falling down the stairs, when it happened DD was in a buggy and they were a flight of marble stairs in a hotel.

That wasn't me though, that was DH who let go of the buggy

You are now a member of a not-very-exclusive club! Try not to worry - and if you were a terrible mother, you wouldn't be worrying IYSWIM. It's happened to most of us!

FWIW, DS aged 6 mo somersaulted off his change unit and landed on his neck . He also, aged 18 mo, fell backwards down the entire flight of stairs . Both times he was fine, not so much as a carpet burn.

DD aged 6 mo grabbed a tablecloth and pulled a whole fresh mug of tea over herself. First degree burns to neck and shoulder. I cried so much that I burst blood vessels in my eyes, and felt that I didn't deserve to have such a lovely baby if I was going to be so careless... Now, 4 months on, you can't even see where the burns were.
