Measles - how young before immunisation?

I have an 11mo DS. He is up to date with his immunisations, but we are due to have house guests from Swansea to stay with us shortly. I am concerned that DS hasnt been immunised against measles, and there is a measles outbreak (550 cases) in Swansea atm.

Am I overreacting? I dont know whether our houseguests (in their 60s) have had measles or been immunised against it. Does anyone know whether DS could safely be immunised at 11mo?

Hi, I live in an out break area in Swansea and I had my 8 month old dd2 vaccinated last week

When DS2 was that age and there was a measles outbreak, I was advised by the nurse that he would still be retaining immunity from me (I was immunized as a baby). I would have liked to bring his mmr forward though, just to be sure - but at our surgery it wasn't possible.

Phone your surgery and ask. It's safe to vaccinate earlier but the effect doesn't last as long/work as well in younger babies - but sometimes when there's a high risk they.decide to vaccinate earlier so babies are covered then. Ds got his at 12 and 42 months, but we're technically in an outbreak now so dd was done at 13 months as per recent general guidance, but was asked to get her second at 16mo.

They may be fine with getting a baby done a bit early.

I've just had DD2 (10 months) immunised but that's because we're in Swansea, as far as I know they have just (last week) started allowing this because we are in an epidemic area. Worth asking your practice nurse though - depends when your guests are coming, as it takes 2 weeks to be effective.
