DD (5yo) has a pinprick rash!

My DD is 5 and last night we noticed a red pun prick rash on her face, neck, chest and back. She has no temperature and says she feels fine.

I have put up some pictures here. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

Has she been crying, coughing or vomiting? Can be down to that. She needs to be seen by a doctor though. There are lots of causes for a rash like this, most of them nothing to worry about, particularly as she is well in herself, but a few things such as clotting problems need ruling out. A doctor can examine her, look at the distribution of the rash and see if she needs a blood test or not.

I don't know but I think you should let her be seen as yes it could indicate a clotting/blood issue.

Hope everything is cool, let us know when you can x

She is absolutely fine aside from the rash. I will try to get he in to the doctor. It is virtually impossible to get an appt with our doctor (we're in Canada).

Thanks everyone.

Just to say it is nice to see you! Smile I didn't know you had changed your name.

TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 01/04/2013 15:14

I have been pretty inactive on MN for the past year (DS has been pretty poorly) and namechanged when I was having some issues with DH. I am considering going back to my old name though. I've never felt comfortable in this one.

LunaticFringe she hasn't been ill. That's why I am so confused as to the cause. She is the only person in our family to have avoided the numerous winter colds. She never gets sick. The rash has appeared out of nowhere.

Ah I see. I'll keep an eye out for something brewing.

Could it be an allergy? Has she eaten something that she doesn't usually have?

Is the rash raised or more sort of under the skin? Does it blanch when pressed?

Google roseola. They can get a fever with it (my ds1 did) but it can be almost asymptomatic. The rash looks just like the one ds1 had.

TabithaMcKitten · 02/04/2013 13:21

That sounds better then. I couldn't really see in the pictures and was worrying that it might be a petechial rash - but being raised and blanching under pressure are good signs! I would probably hazard the good old guess of it probably being viral, despite her not showing signs of illness. Perhaps watch and wait a little.

Reckon post viral - my kids get them post mild infection. Dr explained it was body breaking down proteins in body and to help flush out with lots of water etc.
