Bunion Operation

Has anyone got any stories or experiences of a child having a bunion removed. My DD (age12) has a severe bunion. Wears orthotic insoles and finding shoes is a nightmare. Bunion does get very painful for her.
At our last appointment it has been left up to us to say when we want the operation doing to remove the bunion and straighten big toe. This sound horrible and painful and I am struggling to decided whether to discuss this with DD to have done.

Depends on the surgery they will be doing. Will they be replacing the joint, shaving it, pinning it?
Would recommend it only as an absolute last resort and because of necessity rather than looks. Best type of surgery would be to still have a mobile joint so she has 'relatively normal' big toe joint function afterwards.
If it's a matter of finding her better shoes so she doesn't get the pain then this would be the better option. Definitely steer clear of ballet pumps or unsupportive footwear.

Thanks for that. Dd has never been able to wear sandals, pumps or nice girly shoes. It costs a fortune now she is in adult size shoes. Consultant did not say what type of surgery it would be.
