My dd 16 months old was vomitting from 11pm-4am last night. We called the out of hours doctor and told to keep fluids up and keep clear of dairy until shes holding food down.

She had a good day, didnt eat much but managed toast, banana a little bit of chicken some pudding. At bedtime we gave her her usual milk. She seemed hot to me but dh said she was fine (thermometer broken) she was also shaking (before milk).

After her milk I brushed her teeth and put her down, out like a light. 15 mins later I check on her and she vomitted all over herself in the cot.

Bathed and changed her and gave her water in her bottle as she wont drink it out of a glass when shes unwell. Dh says not to give too much in one go as she might vomit again but I thought it was good to keep fluids up.

What shall I do? Call out of hours doctor again? Am holding her while she sleeps at the moment.

If she is holding down solids, I would let her have water to drink. DD2 had this lately, and she was holding down solids and water, but not milk. I came on here for advice and everyone said it is very common not to tolerate milk when they have a vomiting bug. I witheld milk for a while, and just made sure she had water so as not to get dehydrated. I spoke to NHS Direct and they said I shouldn't have held back the milk and they sent me to OOH. OOH said I had done exactly the right thing!

She is holding down solids just not eating a great deal today. Everything was fine until she had a bottle of milk before bed so makes sense. I'll steer clear of milk until she seems much better.
