8mth old oral antibiotics

My 8mth old dd2 was prescribed oral antibiotics (Flucloxacillian) for a infection around her neck causing by excessive scratching of excema. She was also prescribed an antibiotic lotion and hydrocortisone cream. The difference using all of these just after a day was unbelievable.

We have problems giving the Flucloxacillian. It's sugar free and tastes disgusting. Getting 5mls into dd2 is hard work. Using syringes (with a dab of Calpol on the end to make it initially taste nice!), it's hit or miss if she gets the full dose each time. We're supposed to give her 5mls four times a day, for 7 days. She can eat an hour before a dose, but can't eat for 2hrs after a dose. So between meals and napping and her short day, ts tricky to get all 4 doese into her. To be honest, we've been averaging 2-3 doses a day

So the question is, should I persevere with the oral antibiotics? This is day 6 and I'm tempted to call it a day and let us go back to our usual routine. I am continuing with the antib cream and HC cream of course. I know we're told to finish a course of antibiotics, and I know that's for a good reason......but realistically, what are the cons of not?

Yes. Finish the course.
Although she may be feeling better, it is possible there are still some of the bacteria causing the infection in her body. If you stop the AB's now, they can start multiplying again, and since these were the hardest to kill in the first place, it will be even harder to treat next time.

Not finishing courses of antibiotics is one of the reasons bacteria are becoming resistant to more and more antibiotics.

Oh, and I'd relax the eating before / after times before stopping the course. Say maybe 45 mins before, and 90 mins after, but not sure of the effects on this.

Next phase is right. Persevere, finish the course. I say that as someone who had to persist with getting oral antibiotics into a 6 week old and dealing with the subsequent runny nappies.
