Toddler with sore red willy and what looks like blisters on the end?

This would happen at the weekend!

DS (2.7) woke up this morning at 5am crying and saying his willy hurt. Got up, changed him, examined it - it looked a bit red but nothing major. Washed it in warm water and put him in a disposable (we use washables usually) so I could use some cream on it.

Next couple of nappy changes, it was much the same. But I've just changed him again after he started complaining about it hurting, and it is quite red and angry looking with what seem to be tiny fluid filled blisters on the end? No other rash anywhere, no nappy rash otherwise (he has never really had nappy rash in fact)

What to do? What could this be? We are right out in the sticks, GP is shut on Sat, and the OOH is based at 'local' hospital nearly 30 miles away. So is home treatment appropriate until seeing GP first thing Monday? And if so, what? Help!

Sounds like Balanitis to me. My DS had it when he was little. Needed a course of antibiotics to clear it up.

Ds had similar at about the same age and needed antibiotics to clear the infection.

I've no idea whether it would get worse if you waited until Monday, but if he's crying and you can't distract him, I'd be heading for the OOH.

Bump for doc types, anyway.

(That's what ds's was, as well)

Thank you both :)

He's forgotten it now, he's wandered off to do something with some cars Hmm I think it hurts him when he wees but isn't bothering him the rest of the time, as he's only complaining fairly intermittently (and my DC aren't exactly backward about coming forward when something is wrong Grin)
